ACC Championship Game 2011, UNC Vs. Duke: Blue Devils Get A Momentum Killing Dagger

Stay connected with SB Nation

With around five minutes left in the 2011 ACC Championship, it appeared that the North Carolina Tar Heels were finally about to get back into the game. At the 5:12 mark, down by 10 points, Harrison Barnes spotted up for a wide open three. Everyone in the building could feel that the shot was about to go down. The UNC fans were about to blow the roof off of Greensboro Colosseum. Then, Barnes missed the shot and everyone's hearts sunk. On the ensuing Blue Devils possession, 30 seconds later, Ryan Kelly drained a three from the corner. It was, essentially, a six point swing. Barnes' miss and Kelly's basket sucked most of the life out of the UNC fans, and all hope seems lost at this point. It was the metaphorical dagger.

Trailing 71-56 at the under four minute media timeout, North Carolina appears to be dead in the water. With 3:32 remaining, it would take an absolute miracle for the Tar Heels to get back into the game.
