NIT Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Wichita State Basketball Upsets Virginia Tech

Stay connected with SB Nation

Two March Madness-aggrieved No. 1 seeds are now out of the 2011 NIT Tournament, with Virginia Tech joining Boston College by losing 79-76 to No. 4 Wichita State in overtime. Malcolm Delaney scored an insufficient 30 points as the Hokies shot 34 free throws to Wichita State's 12. Blacksburg home-cookin' came up short today, friends.

In the day's only other NIT action, No. 7 Kent State upset No. 6 Fairfield, 72-68. Randal Holt led the Golden Flashes with 22 points and three steals.

The Shockers will move on to face fellow upstart No. 6 College of Charleston, who've knocked off the defending champs and No. 2 Cleveland State. Kent State will advance to get No. 1 Colorado in the quarterfinals, perhaps the team least pleased about being here in the first place.

For more on these games, Hokies fans should visit Gobbler Country, Kent State fans are off to Hustle Belt, and everybody else should head to Mid Major Madness.
