NIT Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Alabama Advances

Stay connected with SB Nation

Alabama's Tony Mitchell and Trevor Releford combined to score 43 points while helping lead the Crimson Tide over New Mexico by a score of 74-67. The win sets up a match-up with Miami for a spot in the NIT semifinals in New York.

Alabama led by four at the half and as many as 18 points in the second before holding off a late New Mexico rally. Kendall Williams scored 18 points while Phillip McDaniel added 12 for the Lobos. Drew Gordon was also in double figures with 11.

Mitchell led the Tide with 23 points while Releford added 20. Charvez Davis had 14 giving Alabama three players in double figures. The Tide shot 53% from the field but their struggles at the free throw line nearly allowed New Mexico to get back in the game. Alabama was just 16-30 from the free throw line including 4-10 over the last 1:32 of the game.
