Jared Sullinger Swishes Pre-Game 40-Footer, Apparently Defies Physics

Prior to Friday night's NCAA Tournament match-up against Kentucky, Ohio State's Jared Sullinger offered something of a brief pre-game show. From the Louisville Courier-Journal's Rick Bozich:

Jared Sullinger just exited for the locker room with teammates -- and made a 40-footer (nothing but net) on his way off the court.

I really don't like the phrase, "defies the laws of physics." It's over-used so severely that by the time someone actually needs it for an occurrence that deserves it, it's all out of gas. But I'm seriously asking: how do you hit nothing but net from 40 feet away? Shots from that distance aren't rainbows, and it would have to be kind of a rainbow not to hit the back of the rim or the backboard, correct?

Perhaps Sullinger is a magical ninja wizard sorcerer from the Moon. Or perhaps he pulled a gag out of every ten-year-old's bag of tricks: guarantee a "nothing but net" and then just fling the ball at the side of the net without scoring. It only works once, but it does work once.
