ESPN commentator Rob Stone is an impulsive man. Witness him tearing into the world's hottest chili pepper with zero hesitation, as if it's his second pack of Smarties candies, if you don't believe me. He made his name as a bowling announcer, coming up with his catch phrase "Hambone!" on a whim despite the fact that hambone was already a bowling term for something else. Here's a picture of him instantly hanging out with Lil Wayne out of nowhere. Rob Stone!
So it should not surprise you that Stone up and decided to tell a joke during Tuesday night's Sun Belt title game that caused eight entire seconds of dead air, followed by backpedaling:
It's not like I'm super offended or whatever about Stone saying, "There's a phrase for Arkansas-Little Rock, and it applies to most of my prom dates. Not pretty, but effective." But somebody out there will, especially his former prom date(s?). I'm pretty much only amused by this because the most impulsive man in the world said it.
What are we to make of the fact that the Trojans won the game with a last-second three-pointer? That play was both pretty and effective.
