Big 12 Basketball Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Texas Pummels Oklahoma Again

The Texas Longhorns have completed a three-game sweep of their Red River rivals, beating Oklahoma 74-54. Jordan Hamilton was exceptional, contributing 22 points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort. Tristan Thompson also kicked in a double-double, and J'Covan Brown scored in double digits for the Horns.

For their troubles, Texas will get the winner of Thursday night's game between Texas A&M and Missouri. The Longhorns are 3-0 against this duo, having rocked A&M both in Austin and College Station and jolted Mizzou at home. So, you know, whatever.

Is the Big 12 Tournament setting up as a collision course between Texas and Kansas? Though the Jayhawks barely escaped Oklahoma State today, conference higher-ups would certainly be pleased with that matchup.

Big 12 Basketball Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Colorado Storms Past Kansas State

Kansas State had a chance to send Colorado forever packing from the Big 12, but the Buffaloes went wild in the final minutes, taking a 87-75 win. Much of that was due to K-State fouling while down late, but still. This game was a lot closer than that score would indicate.

Either way, the Buffs draw tourney top seed Kansas in the semifinals. They played twice this season, with Colorado's closest effort a four-point loss. That game was in Boulder. In a neutral setting, Colorado's dying-of-the-light charge through the Big 12 Tournament could come to an end.

Corey Higgins and Alec Burks produced for Colorado today, turning out 52 points worth of offense. If the back court can get it going like that against Kansas, we could have a ball game.

Big 12 Basketball Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Kansas Hangs On Against Oklahoma State

Kansas avoided becoming the second No. 1 power conference tourney seed of the day to fall, outlasting Oklahoma State, 63-62. The Cowboys had a chance to win at the buzzer, but J.P. Olukemi couldn't get his shot to fall. Marcus Morris led Kansas with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Keiton Page dealt 23 points and a pair of boards for Okie State.

The Jayhawks could've just set up a rematch against rival Kansas State, who gave the Jayhawks their worst loss of the season and knocked them from No. 1 in the country. We'll find out who Kansas will play shortly.

Other than that loss to Kansas State, Kansas has been on a tear. Thursday's win was their first one-score victory since January 15.

Big 12 Basketball Tournament Bracket Update, Schedule For Thursday's Quarterfinals

After a day of several exciting, close basketball games, the 2011 Big 12 Tournament breaks out the big guns on Thursday in the quarterfinal portion of the bracket. Kansas, which seems to have a lock on a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and Texas, which is fighting for a potential one-seed, are both in action Thursday.

KU will start the day off, taking on Oklahoma State at 12:30 ET on ESPN2. Kansas State vs. Oklahoma is the second matinee contest as K-State looks to improve its March Madness seeding. The night session kicks off with Texas going up against Oklahoma. The Sooners are coming off a dominating win over Baylor, which was without star Perry Jones III. For the Longhorns, they still have an outside shot at a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament if they can win the Big 12 Tournament. The quarterfinal round finishes up with Texas A&M vs. Missouri.

Big 12 Basketball Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Oklahoma Downs Baylor, 87-64

Without Perry Jones III around, Baylor never stood much of a chance against Oklahoma, falling 84-67 in the opening round of the 2011 Big 12 Tournament. Cade Davis led the Sooners with 24 points and four rebounds in a game that was never really in question.

Oklahoma gets archrival Texas tomorrow at 7 pm EST in the quarterfinals. The Longhorns dominated both meetings from the regular season, winning by 20 and 17 points. In the Austin meeting, the Sooners were held to a dismal 46 points. In 40 minutes of basketball!

Oklahoma has now won two straight after a hellacious eight-game losing streak down the stretch. If they can pull off an upset against Texas, it'll be one of the biggest of the season so far. But anything can happen in rivalry basketball, and anything can happen in March.

For more on this game, Oklahoma fans should join Crimson And Cream Machine, and Baylor fans should stop by SB Nation Dallas.

Big 12 Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Colorado Pulls Off Late Win Over Iowa State

New Big 12 rule: you decide to leave the conference for another, you aren't getting past the first round of the conference basketball tournament. Colorado does not play by this rule, topping Iowa State 77-75 hours after Oklahoma State sent Nebraska packing. How do you enforce a rule against a team that's leaving anyway. All the tourney's remaining teams will be back next year, Lord willin'.

For their troubles, the Buffaloes get the conference's No. 4 seed, Kansas State, a team they swept in the regular season. It's not easy to beat a team three times in a season, but Colorado's not interested in following your rules anyway.

Down by two with 35 seconds left, Iowa State broke out a very strange assortment of offense. A deep three with tons of time on the clock? Colorado ended the game with a 13-5 run, coming back from what appeared to be a solid deficit.

For more on this game, Iowa State fans should visit Clone Chronicles, and Buffaloes fans should visit Ralphie Report and SB Nation Denver.

Big 12 Tournament 2011 Bracket Update: Oklahoma State Sends Nebraska Out Of Tourney (And Conference)

Nebraska's last college basketball tournament as a member of the Big 12 ended with a 53-52 Oklahoma State victory. The Cowboys led by as many as 14 in the first half, but the entire second half was a neck-and-neck slugout (gruesome!) that ended when Nick Sidorakis came up with a steal in the closing seconds.

For their efforts, the Cowboys get the home-state Kansas Jayhawks, the No. 2 team in the country. In their one meeting this season, Kansas plasted Okie State, 92-65, at home, part of that late-season rampage after their loss to Kansas State.

Keiton Page led Oklahoma State with 16 points, Marshall Moses chipped in 10 points and five rebounds, and Matt Pilgrim turned in 12 boards. Lance Jeter scored 17 for Nebraska, but also had a pair of critical turnovers within the final two minutes.
