You wouldn't know it from the final score, but the Marquette Golden Eagles found themselves in a battle with St. John's on Wednesday night. The battle, however, was short-lived as Marquette turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 19-point win, thanks to a strong second half.
Marquette outscored the Red Storm by 20 over the final 20 minutes of the game, blowing the game wide-open while exploding on the offensive end. Davante Gardner scored a game-high 22 points, with Darius Johnson-Odom adding 20 points to help put St. John's away. Jae Crowder added 15 points and Todd Mayo chipped in 10 off the bench. Gardner also gathered a game-high 15 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
God'sgift Achiuwa, the all-namer himself, scored a team-high 20 points for St. John's in the loss. Moe Harkless and D'Angelo Harrison were also in double-figures for the Red Storm, scoring 17 and 10 points respectively.
