injured his knee midway through the first half against the Virginia Tech Hokies Thursday night. He left the game with 16:44 remaining after attempting to drive to the basket. He fell to the court near the baseline, grabbed the back of his right knee and spent 30 seconds wincing in pain. Strickland walked on his own power from the court to the locker room.
North Carolina rallied from a five-point halftime deficit against the Hokies en route to a 82-68 win.
Strickland is easily the team's best perimeter defender, and losing him is a definite blow to UNC's title hopes. In addition to his 7.5 points and 2.1 assists per game, Strickland is the only true point guard on the roster after starter Kendall Marshall.
