Fab Melo Doesn't Travel With Syracuse, Will Miss At Least Two Games

The Syracuse center did not travel with the team on their road trip and will miss Saturday's Notre Dame game and Monday's Cincinnati game.

Syracuse Orange center Fab Melo did not travel with the team to its game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday. In a statement by the university, Melo will miss Saturday's game as well as Monday's game against the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Sophomore Fab Melo is not with the team for the current road trip, which includes games against Notre Dame (tonight) and against Cincinnati (Jan.23).

Given University policy and federal student privacy laws, we are not able to provide any further details at this time."

Rumors have swirled all morning that academics could be the culprit, but there has been no confirmation.

This also does not seem to be related to his off-court legal issues from the summer, which stemmed from a fourth-degree criminal mischief charge. Those charges had been settled in November.

Along with the announcement of Melo, Syracuse also announced that junior reserve guard Mookie Jones had left the team for personal reasons and would not rejoin it for the remainder of the season.

Melo is averaging 7.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG and 3.0 BPG. He set the Syracuse single-game blocks record (10) this year.
