No. 1 Syracuse Vs. Notre Dame: Irish Hand Orange First Loss, 67-58

Syracuse's undefeated run is over. Notre Dame handed the Orange their first loss of the season on Saturday.

No. 1 Syracuse had reason to be on upset alert heading into its Saturday date with Notre Dame in South Bend. The Fighting Irish gave the Orange reason to be red-faced on the flight home with a 67-58 upset victory to give Syracuse its first loss of the season.

Notre Dame shot the ball exceedingly well against the Orange, making 20 of 340 shots and connecting on eight of their 16 threes while either running Mike Brey's slow-developing offense to perfection or coughing up their 18 turnovers. Jack Cooley had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Irish, who outrebounded Syracuse, 37-24.

The Orange ran into foul trouble, started cold as Notre Dame raced to an 11-2 start, and missed massive center Fab Melo dearly inside. James Southerland had 15 points for Syracuse, but Kris Joseph's 14 points were the most by any Orange starter.

Coupled with Baylor's two losses this week, Syracuse's first loss of the season means the lone remaining unbeaten team in Division I men's basketball is Murray State.
