Saint Mary's did work on the boards and cruised to a 71-64 win over Loyola Marymount on Thursday night.
The St. Mary's Gaels used a 10-0 run to open the second half to build a lead on Loyola Marymount that they would hold until the end of their 71-64 win on Thursday night.
The Gaels turned a four-point halftime lead to a 14-point advantage in the first 4:23 of the second half, and led by no fewer than six points for the rest of the second half. Stephen Holt led all scorers with 19 points, and was joined in double figures by Matthew Dellavedova, Rob Jones, and Brad Waldow, but the storyline of the Gaels' night was their dominance on the boards. They outrebounded the Lions by a 36-19 count.
Loyola Marymount mustered three players in double figures: Drew Viney (18 points), Anthony Ireland (15 points), and Ashley Hamilton (14 points). But no Lion had more than five rebounds on the night.
