No. 23 Indiana vs. Illinois: Hoosiers Down Fighting Illini, 84-71

No. 23 Indiana used a strong second half to defeat the Fighting Illini on Thursday night.

Freshman forward Cody Zeller scored 22 points as the 23rd-ranked Indiana Hoosiers pulled away in the second half to defeat the Illinois Fighting Illini 84-71 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana on Thursday night.

Up by two points at the half, the Hoosiers outscored the Illini 46-35 in the final 20 minutes to avenge last year's 24-point loss.

Zeller was just five-of-eight from the floor, getting more than half of points from the charity stripe, where he was 12-of-14 on the night. The Hoosiers also got 18 points apiece from Victor Oladipo and Christian Watford and guard Jordan Hulls was four-of-eight from the floor, including three-of-four from beyond the arc.

With the win, the Hoosiers improved to 19-6 and and 7-6 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are off until the Northwestern Wildcats visit Assembly Hall next Wednesday night.

Guard D.J. Richardson was five-of-12 on three-point attempts to lead the Illini with 19 points. Center Meyers Leonard added 17 points and guard Brandon Paul had 13 points as Illinois falls to 16-8 on the season and 5-6 in the Big Ten. The Illini travel to the Crisler Center to face the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday.
