VIDEO: Refs Eject Tom Gugliotta And Chris Corchiani From FSU-NC State Game

This past week has given us a couple of instances of college basketball referees getting perhaps a bit too big for their britches. First, a ref runs across the court for some reason to call the Ohio State coaching staff safe against Michigan State. And now this:

It is still unclear what exactly these two former NC State Wolfpack players did, but suffice it to say it made head referee Karl Hess quite cranky. Hess told them to leave their seats from behind the scorer's table. They walked to the tunnel beneath a cascade of "ref you suck!" chants (the game was in North Carolina, mind you) and cheers as Gugliotta waved his cap in front of the student section before disappearing. Corchiani's son, Chris Jr., wasn't too pleased.

Here's hoping that the ejection involved something said about somebody's parentage, and that it was hilarious.

Wow, why is a ref interacting with someone in the crowd at all?

The NCAA really needs to address the problems in officiating. Have a re-training program or something…

ACC Statement:

“Under Rule 10, when circumstances warrant, an official has the authority to request home game management to eject fans when the behavior, in the officials’ judgement, is extreme or excessive. It’s unfortunate in this instance that ACC protocol of communicating directly with the home game management was not followed, and instead, a building security officer was solicited. We will re-communicate this policy with all officials to ensure proper protocol is followed.”
