The Georgia Bulldogs handed an upset loss to the No. 12 Florida Gators Saturday afternoon in an SEC showdown. The Bulldogs entered the game with a losing record overall and within their conference, but they proved to be no pushovers and took it right to the Gators from the outset for the 76-62 upset.
The Bulldogs took control right away with a big first half. They entered halftime ahead by a score of 36-27 and just kept scoring. More importantly, their shots kept falling. They shot 52.9 percent from the floor, compared with Florida's 37.3 percent on field goal attempts, including just 5-for-24 from beyond the three-point line.
Florida guard Bradley Beal was the leading scorer in the game with 19 points. picking up 11 rebounds for the big double-double in the losing effort. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was Georgia's leading scorer with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals.
The Gators now have a 10-4 SEC record following the loss and an overall record of 22-7. The Bulldogs improve to 13-15, with a 4-10 record in the conference.
The Gators will play their next game on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when they visit the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Bulldogs will not play again until Thursday, March 1, when they travel to take on the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats. Perhaps Georgia can pull off two big upsets in a row.
