The Stanford Cardinal defeated the Cleveland State Vikings, 76-65, in the first round of the 2012 NIT on Tuesday evening.
A one-point contest entering halftime, the third-seeded Cardinal broke the game open in the second half. They were led by Aaron Bright's 17 points, with Josh Owens and Anthony Brown each adding 15. Brown also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Chasson Randle, the team's leading scorer this season, finished with nine points.
The Vikings had just two players crack double-digits, led by Jeremy Montgomery's 15 points off the bench and Tim Kamczyz's 13. Anton Grady grabbed 10 rebounds but made just three of 10 shots. As a team, the Vikings shot just 37.3 percent and committed 21 turnovers.
The Cardinal advance to the second round, where they will face the winner of Wednesday's game between Ole Miss and Illinois State.
