The 2012 Missouri Valley Basketball Tournament kicked off on Thursday at the Scottsdale Center in St. Louis. The 10-team tournament to determine the champion of the MVC conference saw the Indiana St. Sycamores and the Drake Bulldogs both advance to the quarterfinals. Eighth seed Indiana State defeated the ninth-seeded Southern Illinois Salukis and earned the right to face No. 1 seed Wichita St. Shockers on Friday.

Wichita State received a first-round bye and will be a tough opponent for Indiana State. Indiana State finished their season with an 8-10 record in the MVC, with an overall record of 17-13. Wichita State had a much easier time in 2011-12, wrapping up the regular season with a 26-4 overall record, going 16-2 in conference play.
