The Davidson Wildcats meet the red-hot Western Carolina Catamounts in the finals of the Southern Conference tournament.
Another automatic bid is up for grabs Monday night when the Davidson Wildcats take on the Western Carolina Catamounts in the championship game of the Southern Conference Tournament. The Wildcats would appear to have a dramatic edge — they were one of the two No. 1 seeds in the tournament field — though the Catamounts are arguably the hotter team.
The Wildcats are 24-7 and 16-2 in the conference entering this game, including a 21-point victory over Western Carolina in their only meeting this season, on Jan. 12. Led by a guy named De'Mon (De'Mon Brooks, that is), who is averaging 15.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season, they appear to have the advantage.
Then again, so did the last few teams who took on the Catamounts, including the SoCon's other top seed, UNC-Greensboro, who WCU beat in the semifinals. The Catamounts have won their last nine games in a row, which means their record (17-17, 8-10 SoCon) belies how well they've played.
Game Date/Time: Monday, March 5, 9 p.m. Eastern
Location: U.S. Cellular Center, Asheville, NC
TV; ESPN2 (National)
