The Maryland Terrapins and Wake Forest Demon Deacons are both long shots to make the NCAA Tournament, but they could play themselves into the big dance by winning the 2012 ACC Tournament. That opportunity begins Thursday afternoon when the tournament's schedule is slated to begin.
The Demon Deacons and Terrapins are scheduled to tip off at noon ET in a game televised by ESPNU. It's the first of four games slated to be played at the ACC tourney on ESPNU.
The Terrapins won the regular season matchup between the two teams, but considering that was back in January, there's a good chance that 70-64 victory can be thrown out the window when it comes to analyzing this game.
Maryland, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, will likely be counting on a heavy contribution from sophomore guard Terrell Stoglin. The 6-foot-1 shooter averaged a team-high 21.2 points this season while attempting more than seven 3-pointers per game.
The Demon Deacons lost eight of their final 10 games during the regular season on their way to a 4-12 record in the ACC and No. 9 seed in the conference tournament. Wake Forest will need big games out of both of their big scorers as C.J. Harris and Travis McKie both averaged at least 15 points per contest during the regular season.
The winner of Thursday afternoon's game will meet the North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday.
