The Baylor Bears avenged a February loss to Kansas State, defeating the Wildcats in the second round of the 2012 Big 12 Tournament, 82-74, on Thursday. The road to a conference championship gets much rockier during the semifinals Friday. The Kansas Jayhawks are looking to solidify a 1-seed on Selection Sunday, and a win over the No. 12 Bears would certainly look good on the resume.
Baylor is jockeying for position in the NCAA Tournament as well. Their win over Kansas State bumped them up one spot on SB Nation's latest bracketology rankings to 3-seed in the West region. A Big 12 championship would certainly put them in 2-seed contention. For that to happen, Perry Jones III will need to continue to be a game changer. He had 31 points and 11 rebounds against the Wildcats.
The Jayhawks won both regular season meetings between the two teams by a comfortable margin. Baylor was dominated inside for a 92-74 loss in January. Center Jeff Withey put up 25 points during their February matchup in slightly more modest 68-54 win for the Jayhawks.
Friday's game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU at the Spring Center in Kansas City. The winner will face whoever survives Friday's 10:00 p.m. game between the Missouri Tigers and the Texas Longhorns during the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday.
