For once, the Virginia Tech Hokies won't be sweating out Selection Sunday. Unfortunately, that's because they went 16-16 during this season, and 4-12 in conference to earn a 10-seed in the 2012 ACC Tournament. They will be heavy underdogs against the Duke Blue Devils, who come in as the tournament's 2-seed. An upset win would go a long way towards salvaging a lost season for the Hokies.
The Blue Devils earned a first round bye in the tournament thanks to their high seed. Unfortunately, that means they may still be a bit raw from their blowout loss to North Carolina Tar Heels in their regular season finale. The loss knocked Duke from the 1-seed conversation in the latest SB Nation bracketology rankings, though an ACC Championship and a revenge win over UNC could move them back up among the best of the best.
Meanwhile, the Hokies come in with some momentum following Thursday's 68-65 win over the 7-seed Clemson Tigers. Erick Green led the Hokies as he has all season, putting up 24 points. If he can stay hot, Virginia Tech could have an outside chance at major redemption.
Friday's game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN3. The winner will face who ever comes out of the 9:00 p.m. game between the Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes.
