The N.C. State Wolfpack led for all but 30 seconds of the second half, but the Virginia Cavaliers were constantly nipping at their heels, pulling within two points on a pair of Joe Harris free throws with 25 seconds to go. After Scott Wood made 1-of-2 from the line on the next possession, Harris had a chance to tie the game. His long 3-point attempt clanged off the rim, however, sending the Wolfpack to the semifinals of the 2012 ACC Tournament.
The Cavaliers had no answer for C.J. Leslie, who led the Wolfpack with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the game on their way to a 67-64 win. It was his fifth double-double in six games. Lorenzo Brown added 15 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor, as well as eight assists. As a team, N.C. State shot 54 percent for the game.
They struggled from the free throw line, however, making just 8-of-18 attempts. The Cavaliers went 16-for-20 to counter the Wolfpack's solid shooting. Mike Scott had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Virginia. Harris was the second-leading scorer with 18 points. He made the team's only two 3-pointers, going 2-for-5 from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers finished 2-for-12 from long range.
The Wolfpack will play the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in the semifinals. That game will tip off Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
