The 2012 Big Ten Tournament held its quarterfinal matchups on Friday. One of the night games featured the No. 2 seed Michigan Wolverines locking horns with the No. 10 seed Minnesota Golden Gophers, who on Thursday night had knocked off the Northwestern Wildcats in an overtime upset. Minnesota gave Michigan a run for their money, but the Wolverines won 73-69 in overtime.
The Gophers were full of surprises once again on Friday, as they again matched their top-seeded opponent blow for blow and forced the game into overtime with a 56-56 tie score at the end of regulation. The Wolverines opened up a brief four-point lead in overtime but Minnesota cut it to two with a minute left to play. A late surge sealed the deal for the Wolverines.
Trey Burke had a monster game for Michigan with 30 points. Andre Hollins of Minnesota put up 21 points and led all players with six assists in the losing effort.
