The Kentucky Wildcats withstood a second-half rally to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks 67-59 on Monday night and capture the eighth NCAA title in school history, their first since 1998 and the first in John Calipari's career.
Though this year's tournament lacked many of the thrilling buzzer-beaters of previous years, it certainly wasn't without memorable games -- many of which were featured in CBS' annual "One Shining Moment" montage, which can be viewed after the jump.
Some of the most memorable games include No. 15 seeds Norkfolk State Spartans and Lehigh Mountain Hawks stunning the Missouri Tigers and Duke Blue Devils in the opening round, the No. 13-seed Ohio Bobcats posting wins over the Michigan Wolverines and South Florida Bulls to match up with the Cincinnati Bearcats -- and giving the state of Ohio four teams in the Sweet 16, joining the Ohio State Buckeyes and Xavier Musketeers.
Kentucky would be the only No. 1 seed to advance to the Final Four, with the Michigan State Spartans going ice cold from the floor in losing to the fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals in the Sweet 16, the North Carolina Tar Heels playing without injured point guard Kendall Marshall in a loss to Kansas and the Syracuse Orange succumbing to the Buckeyes in a tightly officiated game in the Elite 8.
In the end it would be Kentucky, with its roster loaded with NBA-caliber talent, including three freshmen likely to be picked in the first round, who lost just two games before the tournament before cutting down the nets at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
