North Carolina State guard Lorenzo Brown will undergo exploratory surgery on his right knee Tuesday, according to officials with the university.
The procedure will be done to determine why Brown has been experiencing discomfort in the knee. There is currently no timetable for his return.
Brown enters his junior season as one of the key players for an NC State squad that reached the Sweet 16 a season ago and figures to begin the 2012-13 season ranked somewhere in the top 25.
He averaged 12.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists in his first full season at point guard while leading the Atlantic Coast Conference with 1.8 steals per game.
An update on Brown's condition is expected soon after his surgery on Tuesday.
