Eastern Michigan's Rob Murphy Spurns Orlando Magic Offer

Rob Murphy wont be making the jump to the NBA after all.

The Eastern Michigan head coach, who was reportedly on his way to the Orlando Magic to take over the head-coach position there, will instead remain at Eastern Michigan, the Detriot Free Press reports.'s Graham Couch originally reported Murphy would take the job in Orlando on Tuesday.

In his first year with Eastern Michigan, Murphy was named MAC Coach of the Year after leading his team to a division title and a 14-18 (9-7) record.

Reportedly, Murphy would have been responsible for a $210,000 payment to the school in order to break the contract and take the job with the Magic if he was interested in taking the gig.

"I would like to end the speculation about my leaving Eastern Michigan University," a statement released by Murphy read. "I am pleased to confirm I am remaining at EMU."

Murphy was previously a highly-regarded assistant coach at Syracuse under Orange coach Jim Boeheim.
