Maryland To Aggressively Pursue Waiver For Xavier Transfer Dez Wells

Stay connected with SB Nation

Now that the Maryland Terrapins have landed the commitment of former Xavier Musketeer Dez Wells, the program is expected to aggressively pursue a waiver of the NCAA mandate that requires a transfer to sit out two academic semesters. The waiver could be granted as it seems the incoming sophomore was wrongfully expelled from Xavier on Aug. 21.

Last season as a freshman, Wells averaged 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Musketeers. The production helped the 6'5, 215-pound guard earn a 2012 Atlantic-10 All-Rookie Team selection. If Wells played at Xavier this season, he would have entered the season as the team's leading returning scorer.

Regardless if Wells is granted a waiver or not, the sophomore will have three years of eligibility remaining.
