Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Ty Abbott registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Arizona State Sun Devils captured a 71-46 win over the Washington State Cougars in Pac-10 Conference play at Wells-Fargo Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Sun Devils (12-5, 2-2 Pac-10) were Trent Lockett and Eric Boateng with 12 and 11 points, respectively, the latter also clearing nine rebounds as the team won its second straight.
The Cougars (12-4, 2-2), who had a two-game win streak snapped, were paced by Klay Thompson who was held to just nine points on 3-of-11 shooting from the floor.
Washington State moved out to an early six-point lead in the first half, but the team ended up shooting only 31.3 percent from the floor in the period and trailed at the break, 33-25.
In the second half the Cougars completely fell apart at both ends of the floor as the offense made a total of just seven field goals and the defense allowed ASU to make good on 56.3 percent from the floor as the home team logged the convincing 25-point win.
The Sun Devils handled WSU in the paint rather easily, outscoring the visitors 38-20.
