Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Jimmer Fredette scored 24 points and dished out seven assists to lead the BYU Cougars to a 72-67 victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs in a non-conference tilt at the Save Mart Center.
Tyler Haws added 17 points for BYU (8-1), while Jonathan Tavernari tallied 10 points off the bench. Noah Hartsock collected a game-high 11 rebounds in the win.
Greg Smith posted 21 points and pulled down eight boards for Fresno State (4-5), while Sylvester Seay and Paul George contributed 16 and 14 points, respectively.
The Cougars went into intermission with a 35-29 lead after holding Fresno State to a lackluster 38.5 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half.
BYU connected on 13-of-28 attempts from the floor in the second stanza and went on to win by a five-point margin.
The Cougars connected on 10-of-27 attempts from long range in the contest, while Fresno State made just 4-of-15 shots from behind the arc.
