Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - John Shurna scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Northwestern Wildcats to a 74-57 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten Conference clash at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Jeremy Nash also added 15 points for the Wildcats (18-10, 7-9 BigTen), while Luka Mirkovic and Michael Thompson chipped in with 12 points apiece.
Iowa (9-19, 3-12) was paced by Matt Gatens, who scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a losing effort. Cully Payne also got involved, netting 10 points for theHawkeyes.
Northwestern took control of the contest in the first half, shooting 63.0 percent from the floor, to take a 39-19 lead at the break.
The Wildcats put the game away in the second stanza, knocking down 11-of-13 free throws, en route to a 17-point victory.
Northwestern was tenacious on defense, limiting the Hawkeyes to just 39.5 percent shooting from the field, including a 3-of-21 performance from three- point territory.
