Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Cole Aldrich dominated the paint with 12 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks, and the second-ranked Jayhawks built up a big first-half lead and cruised down the stretch for an 84-65 win over Missouri.
Marcus Morris added 17 points and nine rebounds for Kansas (19-1, 5-0 Big 12), which won its 54th straight game at home by outrebounding the Tigers, 56-28. Tyrel Reed had 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, while Markieff Morris, Brady Morningstar and Xavier Henry each had nine points in the win.
"We got whatever we wanted when we exercised any patience at all, but the game was a fast game," said Kansas head coach Bill Self. "We knew it would be. We played great in the first half, and we were terrific on the glass. Our big guys dominated. The game was never in doubt, but I wasn't pleased with how we played in the second half."
Markieff Morris also added 11 rebounds to make up a poor offensive effort by Sherron Collins, who had six points on 2-of-11 shooting.
Justin Safford led Missouri (15-5, 3-2) with 19 points and seven rebounds, but the Tigers lost their 11th straight game in Lawrence, dating back to 1999. Zaire Taylor added 11 points, while Kim English had nine in defeat.
"How we played tonight is how young teams play and how they react to adversity sometimes," said Missouri head coach Mike Anderson. "When you are down 15, young guys are trying to make a 15-point play. With that being said, it is still a learning process for some of these guys."
The Tigers stayed in the game early, taking a 12-11 lead 5:40 into the game on a Laurence Bowers layup.
The Jayhawks soon took over, following with a 10-1 burst to take a 21-13 advantage on a Morningstar layup just past the period's midway point.
Missouri was unable to cut into its deficit; Tyshawn Taylor's jumper with just under seven minutes left gave Kansas a 30-20 lead, and the margin grew to 15, 40-25, on a Collins jumper with 3:08 to go.
Morningstar drilled a three-pointer with two seconds left to account for the 50-30 halftime score.
Kansas led by at least 17 for the entire second half, going ahead by as many as 28, 75-47, with 8 1/2 minutes remaining.
