Recap: Syracuse vs. Oakland

Sports Network | December 22, 2009

Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Freshman guard Brandon Triche was a perfect 6- for-6 from three-point range, finishing with a game-high 27 points, as fifth- ranked Syracuse cruised to a resounding 92-60 win over Oakland at the Carrier Dome.

Wes Johnson registered a double-double for the Orange (12-0), scoring 19 points and hauling in 11 rebounds. Rick Jackson contributed 14 points and five boards, while Mookie Jones scored 13 in the lopsided triumph.

"Brandon (Triche) got some good looks and knocked them down," said Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. "He's worked hard on his shooting -- I think he's a good shooter. That just broke the game open, it was a very competitive game until he started to knock down those shots."

Drew Maynard had 18 points and seven rebounds to pace the Golden Grizzlies (6-7), who were coming off a loss at Oregon. Keith Benson and Derick Nelson both donated 10 points and six boards in defeat.

The Orange scored 10 of the game's first 12 points before a Benson layup pulled Oakland within 16-13 near the eight-minute mark. Syracuse, though, reaffirmed control of the game, building a 37-20 advantage when Jones hit a bucket with five minutes remaining and leading 43-28 at halftime.

Syracuse continued to play the role of frontrunner in the second frame, pushing the lead to 70-40 when Triche knocked down a trey and followed with an easy deuce.
