12:00pm Robert Morris @ Wagner - Wagner is staring at an invite to the NCAA Tournament just on the horizon but they will need to beat Robert Morris first. In the Seahawks' 87-77 win over Central Connecticut State Thursday in the NEC quarter finals, Tyler Murray had 15 points, 3 assists, 2 boards and a block in 34 minutes. Robert Morris was sitting right behind Wagner in the conference standings and they lost their only meeting to the Seahawks this season so they will have revenge on their minds. With the NEC likely only getting one NCAA bid this season, this will be an important game for Wagner.

3:30pm Arizona @ Arizona State - Arizona State's Jordan Bachynski had come on in the second half of the season getting more minutes and gaining much needed confidence. In the Sun Devils' 56-52 win over USC last Saturday, he had a near double-double going for 19 points and 9 rebounds along with 2 blocks in 29 minutes. Expect that Bachynski gets to test his new found confidence against a tough Arizona team today.

6:00pm Western Carolina vs. UNC Greensboro - Western Carolina put a whopping on Wofford yesterday to get to this game against UNC Greensboro. Harouna Mutombo and Keaton Cole both played well and were keys to the win. The Catamounts only played UNC Greensboro once this season and that was an 89-86 overtime dogfight that they lost. You can bet that the memory is fresh in their minds and Cole and Mutombo will be looking to get one step closer to an NCAA Tournament.

Illini Fall To Michigan 72-61; Well At Least We Can Accept Reality Again

The last Illini game of the season at Assembly Hall has come and gone.* Heading into the night the Illini had something to play for, a reasonable if unlikely chance to make the 2012 NCAA tournament as an at large team. 8-10 was a longshot but still a shot.

Unfortunately the Illini just could not stop Michigan, or would not, so some combination of the two. And Tim Hardaway and Trey Burke combined for 46 points. Team defense came in fits and starts. Transition baskets were given up. However you count it, stops were not gotten.

The game was lost in spite of a very impressive performance from the team's best player, Meyers Leonard, who totaled 18 points and 9 rebounds. It was senior night, and while only Sam Maniscalco and Jean Selus were honored as seniors, Meyers might as well have too. There is no question he is jumping to the NBA this off season, and that was hammered home by a different pregame event. Meyers' older brother Bailey arrived by surprise, home from his most recent deployment in Afghanistan. laying in the NBA, even as a late lottery or slightly lower pick, is a life changing amount of money. Yes, Meyers could play another year, under a new coach, get publicity for National Player of the Year, and end up being a top five pick. Or he could blow out his ACL, go undrafted, and have missed his opportunity. This kid is 19 years old and has the weight of his family on his shoulders. If him going to the NBA means he can take care of his mother, and allows his brother not to have to reenlist, then by God he should go. I am not that selfish.

This was also very likely the last home game in the regular season with Bruce Weber as the Illini coach. With only the Big Ten tournament left as an option to make the NCAA tournament, its getting really unlikely that they will make the miracle run to save Weber's job.

I think I can save the career retrospective for another day, but suffice to say, it isn't going to be a relatively quiet Assembly Hall, losing at home to Michigan for the first time since 1995. It wont be this.

I know that I have had some really great times because of Bruce, and that there will be great times ahead with another coach.

So here we are. One trip to Madison, then to Indianapolis and then the great unknown.

There is a lot of talent on the team, and with the right person, it might bounce right back next year. Or with the wrong person, there is a mass exodus, the recruiting inroads and we tank for a couple seasons. Who knows.

The living wake for the Illini season continues this weekend though, when Illinois goes after a fourth win in Madison in ten years.

7:00pm Central Connecticut State @ Wagner - Coming off a season that saw his numbers drop but the team win 24 games, Tyler Murray was awarded a spot on the Northeast Conference 2^nd Team. He played great team ball and now, as a senior, this is his last chance to make to the NCAA Tournament. The Seahawks split the season series with Central Connecticut State and this is their rubber match. Murray hasn't hit for more than 7 points in his last three games and with his Tournament hopes in the balance you can expect that he's pulling out all stops to help his team get this W.

10:30pm Colorado @ Oregon - Last time out for Oregon, they got a big 74-73 win over in-state rivals Oregon State Sunday. In that game, Olu Ashaolu had 16 points and 8 rebounds while Devoe Joseph had 16 points, 2 boards and 2 steals. With this being a game against a team that the Ducks are tied in the conference standings with, this is a must win for a favorable seeding in the PAC-12 Tournament next week.

11:00pm New Mexico State @ Nevada - New Mexico State is on a five game winning streak and a win today could lock up second place on the Western Athletic Conference. The only problem is that Nevada is leading the conference and will not roll over for the Aggies. What NMSU has on their side is that the three Canadian starters are playing incredibly well of late. Daniel Mullings, Tyrone Watson and senior Hernst Laroche have all been big contributors in each game of that run and they have all taken turns being the X-factor. But with a team like Nevada, it may be up to all three to really make big efforts to help push them to that win.

1:55pm Northwestern vs. Nebraska - This will be a great women's game to check out. It's the start of the Big Ten Tournament and it pits a savvy senior point guard, Nebraska's Kaitlyn Burke, against a talented fresh(wo)man at the lead spot, Northwestern's Karly Roser. Burke is a two year starter as a fifth year senior for the Cornhuskers. Roser has started about every game for the Wildcats this season. Burke is among the Huskers career leaders in threes made (9^th with 107) and assists (17^th with 272). Roser is among the Big Ten leaders in assists per game this season with 4.8 and steals with 51. It will be a great match up and the teams are good too.

2:00pm St. Peter's vs. Canisius - Canisius' Jamie Ruttle not only came off a 16 point, 10 rebound, 3 steal effort on Sunday against Siena she also earned a spot on the All MAAC 3^rd Team also. This is the Griffin's first game of the conference tournament and since they had split the two games with St. Peter's this season this should be hotly contested with a chance to advance ahead on the line. I would expect Ruttle to come out huge here with one of the other Canadians also playing big.

Taryn Wicijowski and Michelle Plouffe have been great all season. Wicijowski had been having a great run in her last four games averaging 18 points and 7.5 rebounds. Plouffe has also been playing well averaging 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks. Oregon State will be a tough out and the Canadian pair will need to play great for the Utes to get this needed W.

12:00pm Maine @ Stony Brook - Maine's Justin Edwards has seemingly become human after his superhuman start to the year. In his last five games he's averaging 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3 assists and is only shooting 15-of-46 and the team has lost four of them. In the last meeting with Stony Brook, a 58-52 loss, Edwards had a near triple-double going for 14, 9 and 7 so this should be a good match for him to get amped for just before the regular season ends. Also of note, Mike Allison is averaging a near double-double in the last five going for 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds plus 1.2 blocks.

Not his best follow up performance so you can bet he has something for in-state rivals Oregon State tonight. The last time they met Joseph dropped 26 on the Beavers. Olu Ashaolu is coming off his second double-double of the season in that Stanford win so you can bet he's looking to continue that pace.

8:00pm Evansville @ Creighton - Jahenns Manigat hasn't needed to be anything but a great team player all season for Creighton but he did go off for 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 36 minutes last Tuesday against Southern Illinois. Now he did follow that up with a zero points, 1 rebound and 1 assist game three days later. Maybe he'll have another outburst tonight.

This is a winnable game for Marquette and if Plouffe has anything to say about it, the Golden Eagles are going to win this one.

Teammate Mike Allison continues to play solid in the post and could have a big one here today too.

Not only that but the other Canadians also each scored in double digits and combined for 39 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. All this means is that someone will step up today and it's a matter of who will have the big game.

Rhode Island, though bringing up the rear in the A-10 standings, will not make it easy for Nicholson to get the ball and will likely throw junk defense at him. If he can stay out of foul trouble here, he could have a monster game.

Three of their next four are against teams that can be beat and big games from both Justin Edwards and Mike Allison would definitely help the cause. In the last three games for the Black Bears, Edwards has been average, which is not a bad thing, but he'll need to step it back up to help his team get over the hump. In that same three game span, Allison has been playing well even registering a double-double also. Let's see what they can do to get another win tonight.

7:30pm Stanford @ USC - In another down season in the now PAC-12, Stanford has lost four of their last five games and could be seeing their season slip away. The good news is that Dwight Powell was inserted into the starting lineup in that span and has been playing solidly. After working his way back into the regular rotation from an early season injury, he's been averaging a respectable 7 points, 5 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game through his last five. I don't expect this to be a great game but it would be a good one to check out if you want to see how Powell's progressed this year.

Pushing a near triple-double in her last time on the floor and having a week long rest from action should mean that we get her A game today but DePaul will be looking to start another Golden Eagles losing streak. This should be a great contest to watch.

Mike Allison has also been playing well of late and the Black Bears are going to need a big game from him especially if they want to steal this win from Boston University and get one game closer to the top of standings.

7:00pm Davidson @ Citadel - In Davidson's 76-54 blowout win over Wofford, Nik Cochran was scoreless on 0-of-4 shooting Monday. This marked the first time all season and not since January 5 of last season that he was without a point in a game. I would think that he'd be looking to get himself going early to get back into the swing of scoring.

He's scored 14 or more points in three of his last four despite coming off the bench in the last two.

And though Kevin Pangos had a good game (12 points, 4 assists, and 0 turnovers) Rob Sacre would rather erase that from his mind all together. Sacre managed 4 points on 1-of-7 shooting and 3 rebounds in 18 minutes. With this rivalry heading back to Gonzaga, you can bet the stakes and the pressure will be high on both sides to get the W.

He seems more comfortable in his role now and could continue this hot play tonight.

7:00pm Syracuse @ Providence - Syracuse's Kayla Alexander managed only 16 minutes of action in the Orange's 55-54 loss to Cincinnati Saturday but she was still very efficient going for 11 points, 5 rebounds (all offensive), an assist and 2 blocks. With two less than Kayla-esque games coming back-to-back, you can expect that she'll be looking to put some work in against a less than spectacular Providence team.
