One reason the Nets were the first team to hold a free agent workout this off-season is to get a head-start on the summer league and training camp. In the past, Bobby Marks said recently, the Nets scrambled to fill the summer league roster. Billy King also told NetsDaily he would be giving Springfield Armor players precedence when the time came to choose. So far, so good.

Jeff Foote is already in New York, getting ready for the free agent mini-camp next week where he will go up against two former NBA centers, Hilton Armstrong and David Harrison. He's confirmed he's gotten one of the Nets first invitations to join the team's summer league roster, along with Dennis Horner, his Armor teammate.

If this was a regular basketball game, the Nets lost. If it was a tanking contest, the Nets won big time. Either way, the score was Raptors 98, Nets 67 in Toronto in the final game of New Jersey Nets basketball. The Nets narrowly avoided the lowest scoring output in franchise history (62).

Bob MacKinnon, who took the Springfield Armor from D-League doormat to Eastern Conference champion, finished second in Coach of the Year competition, the league announced today. Eric Musselman, who coached Gerald Green at the L.A. Defenders, won the honor.

After a month's absence, MarShon Brooks is back in the rookie rankings with Drew Packham of NBA.com ranking him ninth and Sebastian Pruiti of Grantland one place higher. It's Brooks' renewed offensive production that's got him plaudits from the rookie pundits. After all, over the last six, he's averaging 17.2 points and 4.0 assists while shooting 50%.
