Josh Wright Ottawa-preciate This Second Chance

Ah, Josh Wright. It's been too long, my friend. Last we heard, you were involved in a little "misunderstanding" involving a friend's credit card and a bill payment. Didn't know what had happened to you. The charges were dropped but we never heard much else. Thought maybe you'd up and left the country or something.

Oh...you did.

Josh Wright is officially a Gee-Gee. An Ottawa Gee-Gee. That's the basketball team for the University of Ottawa where Wright has apparently enrolled and is now an integral part of the team.

Wright's new coach, Dave DeAviero, is pleased:

"We know there has been all kind of talk about Josh's eligibility on the Internet, because of what happened last year with him leaving Syracuse after a few games," DeAveiro says. "The Big East has granted him his fourth year of eligibility. You hear people saying, 'How's he eligible? How's he eligible?' "

"We're not going to play a person who's not eligible," DeAveiro says. "The Big East was kind enough to give him his fourth year back and hopefully we'll have him for two years.

"We've talked about the inc
ident with the credit card," DeAveiro adds. "Josh has been totally honest with me. We had an opportunity to have his parents up here for a weekend, they're great people as well."

Probably the most important question in all of this is...what the hell is a Gee-Gee?

The term Gee-Gee is taken from horse racing where a Gee-Gee is the first horse out of the starting gate. The name GGs also describes the university colours, garnet and grey.

Oh.

Wright's already getting used to his new surroundings. He's played three games for the Gee-Gees, averaging just shy of 17 PPG. He'll have to be on top of his game if he wants to lead the Gee-Gees to win over the hated cross-town Carlston Ravens.

In all fairness, nice to see Wright is taking advantage of his second (or is it third?) chance:

"Becoming a better person and becoming a better player," said Wright.
"That’s all I can do."
