Back for another edition of Casual Communication. Believe it or not, most of these questions came from actual readers. If you want to have your questions answered, email jeffgreensdad@gmail.com and I promise it will, we've got no other options.

What is your favorite obnoxious fan cheer? Cole, Philadelphia, PA

For refs, I will always enjoy "Get off your knees ref, you're blowing the game." It is particularly useful when John Cahill is a referee. For players, my favorite was for Syracuse guard Eric Devendorf, in light of his assault charges. It was a simple "You hit wo-men" (clap, clap, clap clap clap). For teams, I enjoy pulling out the keys and chanting, "Warm up the bus."

Club Trillion has christened Evan Turner "The Villain". What are the best nicknames for current Hoyas that you'd come up with? Harry, Godrics Hollow, England

Chris Wright - The Wrecking Ball. I think this works on a few levels. He can score in bunches, wrecking other teams. He can turn the ball over in bunches, wrecking our team. And when he plows into the lane, he resembles a Wrecking Ball. Chris, you are the Wrecking Ball.

Hollis Thompson - The Kid. He's a stud freshman, he looks like he's 12, he hustles his ass off, and he's a good teammate.

Austin Freeman - JT IV. First, because he looks like our beloved coach's child. Second, because he has become the coach on the floor. On Tuesday, he gently explained to Henry Sims that it's a bad idea to pick up 4 fouls when everyone else has 4 fouls, and also calmed down The Wrecking Ball.

Jason Clark - Inspector Gadget. When he sticks his arms out to steal a pass, it looks like he is activating the Go Go Gadget Arms.

via danoftheday.com

Greg Monroe - Vincent Chase. He's the franchise, we'll only go as far as he does. Like an episode of Entourage, I always have fun watching him, but I also always expect more.

In your opinion, which Hoya player has the most groupies? Coleman, Philadelphia, PA

I can tell you that in the class of 2008, it was definitely Patrick Ewing, Jr. But for the current Hoyas? I think it is Hollis Thompson. The man has a lot of appeal to girls on campus. For freshmen, he's experienced - he's been on campus since last January. He's the cool freshman with the older friends. He's got a sweet shooting stroke. He looks like he's nice and tries hard to be a good teammate. And he's just adorable, right? Am I right? Anyone?

Has Greg Monroe lived up to the hype? Liora, Malibu, CA

An interesting question, especially considering his performance against Butler on Tuesday. The quick answer is no, at this point he hasn't. He was the #1 recruit in the nation for most of his high school career. Let's look at the #1 ranked players the years before Greg.

2007 - Michael Beasley

2006 - Greg Oden

2005 - Gerald Green

2004 - Dwight Howard

2003 - LeBron James

2002 - Carmelo Anthony

Considering LeBron, Carmelo and Dwight are three of the five best players in the NBA, it's clear that Greg doesn't stack up yet. The Hoyas went 16-15 last year and missed the NCAAs. But, Greg wasn't expected to dominate like those guys have. Even in high school, Greg's prodigious talent came with questions about his motor, so his "hype" wasn't nearly as loud.

If Greg leads the Hoyas to an Elite Eight, makes First Team All Big East, and goes in the top 10 in the NBA Draft, I think he will have lived up to the hype. Let's see how it plays out.

Last night (Casual Note: a week ago now) I watched as Taylor King, the former Duke forward, put up 16 against Drexel--shooting 4-6 from behind the 3-pt mark--with 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block to round out his line. And he's essentially the sixth man on this number three Villanova team; King played only 23 minutes last night. While it is fair to note that Nova was playing Drexel and has not really been challenged by their schedule yet this year, King is averaging just over 10 points a game, almost 7 rebounds a game, and is shooting near the .500 mark from downtown. (Casual Note: King also had 20 points, including 4 three-pointers, a couple of which were absolute daggers, and 9 rebounds last night against a surprisingly spunky St. Joe's team) All this begs the question: is Taylor King the best transfer player in the Big East this year? Maybe/Probably. But I'd love to see a list of the best transfer players in the Big East over the last ten years and see how King stacks up, assuming his averages stay the same for the season. Iceberg, Villanova, PA

Look here Iceberg. Casual Communication is about Casual discussion where I get to spout off about nicknames, groupies, and other nonsense. I don't want to do "research" or find "statistics" or use my "brain".

After doing all of these things, as well as getting help from the rest of the Casual Hoya staff, your question has been amended. The Big East is not a conference that tends to attract a lot of transfers, so we're going to do a list of five. We're also going to use transfers from the last five years, since the Big East expanded to 16 teams.

1. Jeremiah Rivers, Georgetown. Though he transferred out of the conference, simply by leaving, he increased the competitiveness of the entire league.

2. David Padgett, Louisville. Averaged 11.2 PPG in 2007-2008 when Louisville finished second in the Big East. Also bonus points for being the only non-Georgetown transfer I remembered without having to use the Google machine.

3. Patrick Ewing Jr., Georgetown. 6th man on back-to-back Big East Championship teams and 2007 Final Four team. Won the Big East's inaugural 6th Man Award in 2007-2008 season. Put up Wilt Chamberlain-like numbers on Georgetown's campus.

via www.inquisitr.com

4. Jeff Xavier, Providence. Averaged 10.4 PPG in his two years at Providence. Bonus points for his brother, Jonathan Xavier, running onto the court during a game in January 2009 to confront a referee, subsequently getting arrested for disorderly conduct. Look at his face, what a psycho.

5. Wesley Johnson, Syracuse. Usually, it'd be premature to put a guy who has played eight games, but I mean look at this list. It's really bad. And Wesley Johnson is projected to be a top 5 draft pick. I promise you, Iceberg, that he is the best transfer to come through the Big East in 5 years, 10 years, etc. Does it hurt to admit? Yes. But he's really, really good.

As for Mr. King, he had that great game last night and hit a clutch three to seal the game. My guess is he'll sneak into this top 5 list by the end of the year. If not, he really sucks, because none of these guys really lit it up. Do not ask another question like this, my brain hurts.

How did you feel when told there was no room at the inn on Jeff's day of birth? James, Long Island, NY

I'd say I felt a combination of fear, horniness, and hunger.

Which Hoya (past and present) would fit in best with the cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore?" K Dogg, New York, NY

via www.mtv.com

First of all, for the 20 of you that read this, please watch this show. I beg you. Words do not do it justice. It is the John Wall of reality TV shows, you have to see it to believe it.

As for your question, the past Hoya that would fit in best would be DaJuan Summers. He has the tattoos, the body, the crappy facial hair, and the insecurities that would make him perfect for the show. I might even start calling DaJuan "The Situation". When it comes to current Hoyas, I think my boy Chris Wright would probably fit the best. He's got an "I'll fight anyone, including my teammates" edge to him that is both intimidating and admirable. I have the same conflicting and exciting feelings every time Ronny gets on screen. I would also consider Jeremiah Rivers just because he looks so much like Vinny, who is farthest left in this picture.

In their first contest against a ranked team this season, Georgetown nearly blew a lead of Davidson-proportions but managed to hang on for a victory against Butler in Madison Square Garden. Greg Monroe contributed 24 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs, and Austin Freeman added 18 points, shooting 4-5 from beyond the arc. The seemingly endless turnovers and fouls are cause for some concern but the Hoyas got the victory in the end as the Bulldogs shot a woeful 30% from the field. The Hoyas are now 7-0 and fly out to California to face Washington on Saturday.

Georgetown dominated American 73-46 on the backs of Henry Sims (yes, that Henry Sims), who had a career high 12 points and 4 rebounds, and Julian Vaughn, with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Chris Wright added 12 points, while Austin Freeman, Jason Clark and Greg Monroe each had 9 points. Georgetown outrebounded American 37-26, with Monroe contributing 13 rebounds.

The cupcakes are officially done. Next up for the Hoyas are the Butler Bulldogs on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, and then cross country to face the Washington Huskies on Saturday.

Press coverage and Casual awards to follow tomorrow.

Here at Casual Hoya we're instituting a weekly feature known as Casual Communication. To send in a question, email jeffgreensdad@gmail.com

Because this is the first edition, these are actual questions from made up readers and the Casual Hoya staff.

With Henry Sims obviously not showing improvement thus far in the season, who else needs to show marked improvement for the Hoyas? Chris, Washington, DC

I agree that Henry hasn't been nearly as good as people hoped / expected thus far. That said, he's made strides, especially on the defensive end, the last two games. Then again, after the Temple game I would have been an improvement over Henry. His lack of improvement has been negated by Julian Vaughn's emergence as a legitimate low-post offensive threat. He is providing what Hoya fans expected Sims to provide.

JV's improvement not withstanding, no one on Georgetown has improved as much as Jason Clark thus far. He has become a do-it-all guard, and is the calming force Chris Wright is not. It's been interesting watching Clark become the de facto point guard, which allows Wright to slash freely and lessens the amount of times Wright can throw his head down and barrel into a defender with no purpose.

More questions after the jump.

As a student, were you a Hoya guy or a Saxa guy? Sung, Beijing, China

I was a Hoya guy. It is simple. If you are a Hoya, you are a leader. If you are a Saxa, you are a follower. Growing up my mom always told me to be a leader and not to do drugs, so I followed her advice.

How handsome is Julian Vaughn? Steve, Seattle, Washington

My quick answer would be as he continues to play better, he continues to get more handsome. He looked like Brad Pitt to me two nights ago after he dropped that left handed hook shot. But let's get a lady's perspective on this. I introduce our readers to Jeff Green's Mom, my girlfriend I met in a chatroom, for her perspective:

After gauging many a lady Hoyas' reaction to our own 6'9" stunner Julian Vaughn, I think it's only safe to say that he's fortunate (or unfortunate...) he wasn't on the Hilltop at the same time as the class of 2008. Does this attraction to the Hoya forward make us a bunch of "cougars"? Yes, and it's a label we'll proudly accept.

I think we're breaking up.

What are your thoughts on Hollis Thompson thus far? Jackie, Florence, Italy

Let me put on my Jon Gruden mask for a second. THE GUY IS JUST A BASKETBALL PLAYER! HE KNOWS HOW TO PLAY BASKETBALL!

Thanks for the analysis Jon, keep up the good work ruining my Monday nights for the next two years. Hollis will help us most by giving us another outside threat, especially as his confidence and game reps continue to increase. The most pleasant surprise about Hollis has been his ability to rebound. I assumed he wouldn't be much of a rebounder because he's built like an under-fed female model. It's natural to compare Hollis to DaJuan Summers because he replaces DaJuan. I can't stop thinking how DaJuan's body and Hollis' basketball savvy and work ethic would be the greatest small forward ever.

Who is the best dressed coach in the Big East? Mitch, Toronto, Canada

So many good candidates here:

via thesportshernia.typepad.com

via digitalheadbutt.files.wordpress.com

Ultimately, I'll go with the man at the helm for the Hoyas of Georgetown.

via sportsillustrated.cnn.com

Jeff Green's Mom will chime in again, though:

Best dressed coach in the Big East is clearly a toss-up between our own beloved JTIII and Nova's Jay Wright. As much as it pains me to say it, Wright's multiple wins of GQ's Fashionable Four award and his striking resemblance to a Mad Men character give him a slight edge.

via www.catsandbeer.com

Does Coach K wear a toupee? If so, why doesn't Jim Boeheim wear one? Bobby, Syracuse, NY

I believe he does. Others may argue. Either way, his hair sucks. As for Boeheim, not sure he really needs a toupee, I mean look at his wife.

via www.straitpinkie.com

If Craig Esherick and a Miller Lite bottle were hanging off a cliff, which one would you save? Maurice, St. Louis, Missouri

Craig Esherick. The man recruited my son.

Is the team's lack of a bench cause for concern? Matt, New York, NY

JT III's teams at Georgetown have consistently played 6-7 players and the results have been pretty good. The 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 teams played 6.5 guys (Ewing and Rivers' defense coming off the bench). At the 1-3 positions, I actually like our depth. Between Wright, Freeman, Clark and Hollis Thompson, I feel good there. It even seems like Vee Sanford will be able to give us 10-15 minutes of quality guard play. What I'm concerned about is our big man depth. We still need Henry Sims to give us 15-20 solid minutes again because someone will invariably be in foul trouble. Julian Vaughn has showed the stamina of a Biggest Loser contestant thus far.

Who is the ugliest player in the Big East? Scott, Atlanta, GA

For so many years, this question was so easy - Eric Devendorf.

via www.mybaycity.com

But now that The Newt has graduated, has to be Luke Harangody. Look at that face. He's a walking advertisement for birth control.

via vmedia.rivals.com

As a "Casual Hoya" myself, I have trouble remembering who our starting five are. Please clear up my confusion. Thanks! Russell, Washington, DC

No problem. We start Chris Wright, a junior from Maryland, Austin Freeman, a junior from Maryland, Jason Clark, a sophomore from Virginia, Julian Vaughn, a junior from Virginia, and Greg Monroe, a sophomore from Louisiana.

Hope that clears it up for you, young fella.

Where do babies come from? Jesus, Jerusalem, Israel

I always thought the John Carroll statue on the front lawn of Georgetown's campus. Jeff Green's Mom has a different take:

Any true Hoya knows that babies are a direct result of a unique and intoxicating combination of Tombs Ale, Rhino dance parties and the MSB's lack of Friday classes.

Oh. Ok. See you next week.

Greg Monroe and Chris Wright led the undefeated Hoyas to victory on Monday night against the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's. You have no idea how long I have been waiting to type those words.

Monroe had his second double-double of the season as he complied 19 points and 11 rebounds while Wright shot 7-11 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc to add a season high 18 points.

Before we all get our collective panties in a bunch about this year's season, I'd like to do an old fashioned countdown of my 5 favorite games of the JT III era. I graduated in 2008, so I was lucky enough to see all 5 of these games in person, which also probably skews my views in terms of order. Feel free to argue with my rankings, add your own, and even throw in some games from before the JT III era when I was still in diapers.

Honorable mention with memories, year by year:

2008 - 2009: Memphis (79-70 OT, Chris Wright becomes a man), @ UConn (74-63, Greg Monroe dominates Hasheem Thabeet), Syracuse (88-74, DaJuan Summers throws down on Kristof Ongenaet)

2007 - 2008: West Virginia (72-55 BET, The one time all season I thought we could win the NCAAs), @ West Virginia (58-57, Patrick Ewing Jr.'s block), @ Marquette (70-68, Jonathan Wallace's free throws), Louisville (55-52, DaJuan Summers has one moment of clutchness in 3 years and it came at a good time)

2006 - 2007: Boston College (62-55 NCAA, Patrick Ewing Jr. punking Jared Dudley) Notre Dame (84-82 BET, Never again did I think Jeff Green would be a senior at Georgetown), Pittsburgh (65-42 BET, First BET Championship since 1989), Notre Dame (66-48, Jessie Sapp's alley-oop to Jeff Green), West Virginia (71-53, Patrick Ewing Jr. fighting with John Beilein), @ Villanova (58-55, Jeff Green morphing into a closer)

2005 - 2006: Pittsburgh (61-58, Holy ^&%* the Duke game wasn't a fluke), Ohio State (70-52 NCAA, Roy's coming out party)

2004 - 2005: Notre Dame (55-54, Roy's game winning dunk and the beginning of "Roy, Roy, Roy" chant)

Now for the top 5 games of the JT III era, in my opinion:

5. January 12, 2008, 72-69 win over UConn at the Verizon Center

via grfx.cstv.com

Coming into this game, the 2007-2008 Georgetown Hoyas were 12-1 overall, 2-0 in the conference, but had lost its only real test at Memphis, 85-71. It also happened to be one of the first Super Saturdays of the season, so the students were particularly joyful, to say the least. Most of the game was a blur due to this joyfulness, but some highlights included Pat Ewing Jr. contributing 14 points off the bench and starting his campaign for the inaugural Big East 6th Man of the Year. Previously, I was concerned that Pat would have a hard time taking a backseat to freshman Austin Freeman, especially when taking into account Pat was roughly 30-years-old already. He and Freeman combined for 27 points on 9-13 shooting and Pat continued to be the ultimate teammate whether he was starting or coming off the bench.

Fast forward to 32 seconds left, tied at 69-69, Georgetown took a full timeout. Coming out of the timeout, in typical JT III fashion, we passed the ball around the 3 point line for about 25 seconds. What was particularly disconcerting during these 25 seconds was that our 7'2" preseason All America center was manning the point guard position. I remember screaming "Post up! Post up you big &^%$! For the love of God, post up!" Then, with 6 seconds left, Roy Hibbert decided to shoot his second career three. It was the first time I've ever heard 20,000 people go from "What the $%#%?!" to "AHHHHHHH!!!!" so quickly and so violently.

Some silver linings from the game:

Roy Hibbert began a tradition that would be continued a year later by Greg Monroe of thoroughly emasculating Hasheem Thabeet on national television. Roy scored 20 points and had 8 rebounds, Hasheem "contributed" with 7 points and 2 boards.

Students barreling down the stairs in the Verizon Center screaming "stampede", including one brave soul who decided he would attempt to crowd surf down these stairs.

Thinking to myself, "We may not win pretty this year, but this team will do whatever we can to defend our Big East Championship". This definitely proved true with close victories over Syracuse, Villanova, Marquette, West Virginia and Louisville later in conference play.

Thinking to myself, "Wow JT III really isn't into the whole ‘play designing' thing in close games". This also proved true, though not very effectively, when Austin Freeman and Nikita Mescheriakov were clanking game winning attempts off the side of the backboard in 2008-2009.

Seeing a 2007 graduate and friend completely blacked out after the game screaming "I used to run this place" at the top of a stairwell in Verizon and subsequently falling down the entire set of stairs. My friends and I vowed that when we graduated we'd never be "that guy". This held true until the first Super Saturday the next year when we beat Memphis in OT and one of my friends screamed at a group of current seniors "We pregamed harder than you party". Cool.

4. March 23, 2007, 66-65 win over Vanderbilt in Sweet 16 at the Meadowlands

We had previously beaten Vanderbilt in their home gym 86-70 that year, so coming into this Sweet 16 game, confidence was riding high. We just defeated Jared Dudley and his safety school and seemed to be on a collision course with UNC to right the wrongs of 25 years before. Then the Hoyas decided to sleep walk through the first 38 minutes of the game and Roy Hibbert decided that the immortal Ross Neltner and Ted Skuchas were going to be worthy adversaries. We were actually up 64-61 with 1:00 left in the game, then chose to give the Commodores four straight free throws. Down 65-64 with 14 seconds, JT III called a timeout as Georgetown fans across the country collectively hyperventilated. You all know what happened next - Jeff Green juked left, juked right, maybe traveled, and banked in the game winner.

Some silver linings from the game:

Looking back, it is very underrated how in love DaJuan Summers was with Jeff Green, especially considering how different they turned out. After Jeff hit the game winner, he tried to do that cool "hold out your jersey to show your team name" thing, but DaJuan grabbed him in a bear hug before he could fully celebrate. For a split second I really thought DaJuan was going to kiss Jeff on the mouth, which would have made for an even more uncomfortable moment than any Adam Lambert performance.

via graphics8.nytimes.com

Speaking of DaJuan, it has been lost just how good he was in the East Regionals as a freshman. He and Jeff led the team with 15 points each against Vandy, and then he followed up with 20 points again UNC in the Elite 8. I still think he would have been a top 15 pick on potential alone had he left Georgetown after his freshman year.

Vanderbilt may have prettier girls than Georgetown, but we still win at basketball and at life.

I was at the Meadowlands for this game, but for the people on campus, apparently the Village B courtyard had about 1,000 people chanting and screaming right after Jeff hit the shot. Still not sure which place I would have rather been.

3. February 24, 2007, 61-53 win over Pittsburgh at the Verizon Center

This game effectively clinched the Big East regular season championship for Georgetown for the first time since 1989. To this day, I will argue that this was the loudest I ever heard the Verizon Center in my time at Georgetown. What I loved about this game, and this team, was the ability to pull away. The 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 teams tended to play to their competition, the 2006-2007 Final Four team had a killer instinct. Pitt was ranked in the top 10 coming in and the game was tied 49-49 with 3 minutes left when Jeff Green took over. He hit Jessie Sapp for a backdoor layup to go up two, followed by a Jonathan Wallace layup, then Green got a steal and found Sapp for a layup while he was falling out of bounds. Still one of my top 5 Jeff Green plays of all time. It was after Sapp's layup to put the Hoyas up 6 that I actually felt the Verizon Center floor shake. Contrast that to the half full stadium we saw on ESPN against Temple. This game may seem a bit high on the list, but it was the point where I felt that we could really win the National Championship, and it happened to coincide with my 21st birthday weekend.

Some silver linings from the game:

I was drunk enough and my man crush was strong enough that night to spend $182 of my birthday money in a charity auction to get a dinner with Jeff Green. The dinner was going to be my friends and me hanging out with him / posturing to be in his entourage when he went to the NBA. And to think that I just made fun of DaJuan Summers for loving Jeff Green. The highlight was having my friend's cute blond girlfriend bid at the auction and the pure dismay on Jeff's face when he realized that he'd be going to dinner with 10 dudes rather than a one-on-one with a Tara Reid (circa American Pie) clone.

I think this game set the record for students getting kicked out of the Verizon Center. It was another Super Saturday, and I counted 8 different people getting thrown out for throwing things not limited to trash, beer and small children. Not our finest moment as Georgetown students.

Roy Hibbert had a knack for thoroughly outclassing any big man seen as competition while he was at Georgetown. He outplayed Aaron Gray, Luke Harangody, Greg Oden and Hasheem Thabeet during his time on the Hilltop. He never could quite figure out how to play Scottie Reynolds and Villanova's other midgets though.

2. January 21, 2006, 87-84 win over Duke at the Verizon Center

via nbcsportsmedia3.msnbc.com

You know a game is iconic when you don't have to look at ESPN's schedule to know the date. In many people's eyes, this is still JT III's signature win. Duke was #1, undefeated, sporting two first team All Americans and Mike Krzyzewski's toupee was particularly shiny that season. The Hoyas put on a clinic of backdoor cuts, running the Princeton offense like Pete Carril dreamed it to be executed. A sophomore Jeff Green had his most complete game in a Georgetown uniform to date, putting up 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. We also got tremendous performances from the team's three seniors - Brandon Bowman, Ashanti Cook and DJ Owens - who combined for 53 points on 19-30 from the field. When Greg Paulus' last ditch 3 point attempt fell short, Georgetown students rushed the court and the JT III era had officially begun.

Some silver linings from the game:

Rushing the court was completely horrifying. I'm about 5'10" and claustrophobic, so it was basically my own version of hell. I'm very glad I experienced it once, and I'd like to never do it again.

I think people forget how ridiculously good JJ Redick was at Duke. To this day, he put on the best shooting performance I've ever seen. He scored 41 points in the game, almost half of Duke's total output. One of my friends kept trying to chant "Overrated" at him, to the point that we went to get a beer midway through the second half and he said "I really hope that JJ overrated chant catches on" to which I replied, "Dude, he has like 33 points already".

A group of students had a party after the game where they set a couch on fire. Three hours later cops showed up while they were all passed out. The cops grabbed three of them and brought them downtown, without allowing the kids to consult with one another. All three, in different rooms, when asked who caused the fire, replied "JJ Redick".

I still credit my brother with rattling Shelden Williams before the game. A precocious senior in high school, he decided that it would be prudent to hurl his full water bottle at the Duke players when they came out of the tunnel for pregame warm-ups. His toss cracked ol' Shelden right on his head, and Verizon Center security miraculously never found out who threw the bottle. Shelden finished the game with 4 points on 2-8 shooting.

1. March 25, 2007, 96-84 OT win over UNC in Elite 8 at the Meadowlands

via sportsillustrated.cnn.com

And we have it! The best game of the JT III era. Believe it or not, it happens to be the game that got us to the Final Four for the first time since 1985. This game was a back and forth affair that saw the Hoyas go down by 10 with 6:02 left and clawed back to force overtime with a game-tying three by Jonathan Wallace. Overtime looked like Georgetown was playing a decent high school team as most of the Tar Heels attempted to shoot with two hands suffocating their necks. The game was capped off by Jim Nantz exclaiming "Like Father, Like Son, Georgetown is going to the Final Four!" All in all, a great moment for the program.

Some silver linings from the game:

A combination of Georgetown's suffocating defense and UNC's horrid offense forced the Tar Heels to make only one field goal in 23 attempts for the last 15 minutes of the game including overtime. That's not very good.

In the two best games of the JT III era, the Hoyas scored 96 and 87 points. Who says the Princeton offense can't be high scoring?

Roy Williams may have two national titles and a nice Southern accent, but JT III so completely outcoached him that it prompted ESPN's Bill Simmons to note, "The coaching mismatch in yesterday's Gtown-UNC game may have been the most glaring in a big game since Guy Lewis/Valvano."

Almost 3 years later, when I think about DaJuan Summers' two overtime dunks, I still get the chills.

This UNC team had 5 NBA players, including 4 first round picks. Let that sink in. Georgetown's back court consisted of a walk-on and a dude playing professionally in Scotland.

Anyone that questions whether the Princeton offense can be successful, watch this game. When Georgetown shoots the ball well, the backdoors start working, and it's a thing of beauty.

Georgetown students running down to the White House after this victory is one of my proudest moments to be a Hoya. The 3 other Final Four teams (Ohio State, Florida and UCLA) barely got a reaction out of their fans, but our little Jesuit university's students decided to run 1.5 miles to where the President lives and sing the fight song outside the front gates.

It's been 3 years and I still am convinced we were one DJ Owens 3 pointer and one blown Greg Oden offensive foul call from winning consecutive national championships and never having to hear about Joakim Noah.

Player of the Game

DaJuan Summers. Summers' absence was noticeably refreshing. The Hoyas went back to the basics, resulting in numerous easy looks in the 2nd half as Georgetown began to pull away. Hopefully gone are the days of the awful outside shots with 25 seconds left on the shot clock. On the court I'm giving this award to Greg Monroe, but I'm not happy about it. The 18 and 11 is good on paper, but he wasn't nearly assertive enough against an undersized Tulane frontcourt.

Fans of the Game

The 100+ friends and family that came out to support local hero Monroe were great, but I was more impressed with the number of Hoya fans who came to New Orleans from near and far who sat in the visitor's sections and made their presence felt. Throughout the 2nd half the 'Hoya Saxa' chants drowned out anything the Tulane kids could put together. Of course, it was tough to put anything together at that point due to the majestic $3 beers on sale at Fogelman Arena. Special shout-out to the crew of 5 current freshmen at Georgetown who flew down for the weekend and attempted an ill-fated "Casual-Hoya" chant. Also special shout-out to the Tulane student who stripped down to a speedo and danced behind the basket to distract Monroe on a free throw attempt. Monroe missed the freebie.

Bring It On! Award

On scale of 1-5, with Georgetown's cheerleaders being a 1 and Arizona being a 5, Tulane's cheerleaders merit a 2, barely elevated above 1 due to presence of the dance squad and its black spandex. This was a disappointing effort by the Wave, especially considering the level of talent right outside the Arena.

Stay Hot Award

The award for least impressive performance is a tie between the Tulane cheerleaders and Tulane coach Dave Dickerson's tie. Dickerson, who is generally a snappy dresser, decided to impress a near sellout at Fogelman with a choice of neckwear that resembled this.

Jack Nicholson Award

Celebrity fans included the New Orleans Saints' Darren Sharper and Roman Harper. Also in attendance was Tulane's President Scott Cowen, who may be the next president of the NCAA.

Brandon Bowman Memorial Award

This award went unclaimed in this game, as not a single player exhibited any questionable antics down the stretch with a point spread cover or an over/under hanging in the balance. The Hoyas led by double-digits throughout the 2nd half, and the 10 point line was never in question in the final minutes.

Craig Esherick Coaching Move of the Game

JT3 inserted Nikita for a stretch in the 1st half. When he entered the game the Hoyas led by about 8. When he exited just over 3 minutes later, the Hoyas lead was shredded to 3. Nikita adds nothing to this team. Much rather see what Sanford and Benimon can do.

Patrick Ewing Jr Award

Hollis Thompson is the new Junior. He knows the system, his size causes matchup problems, he hustles, and he shows emotion when on the court. The upside is real, palpable, and true.

Look, I could go on all night with these, but I'm still hungover, the Pats and Colts are about to kickoff and we've got Temple to start getting worried about.

Hoyas are undefeated.

Casually.

A tale of two halves. Georgetown went into the locker room at the end of the first half up only five points but ended up winning the game by sixteen.

Quote of the night goes to the Tulane announcers at the 7:31 mark:

"The Tulane students were yelling overrated at Greg Monroe earlier in the night. He has 18 points now. Yeah, that wasn't very smart."

Top Georgetown performer: Greg Monroe - 18 points / 11 rebounds

We here at Casual Hoya will do anything to bring you the inside info you need about Georgetown's opponents. Anything.

With the season tipping off tomorrow, see below the results of our pillow talk with The Wave Report, the best source of Tulane sports information on all of the internets. On that site you will find our answers to some of Tulane's most pressing queries about our Hoyas. Enjoy.

CH: What exactly is a Green Wave?

TWR: It's one of those nicknames like "Crimson Tide" where a radio guy came up with it. As legend goes (according to TU media guide) the announcer saw the Tulane football team, decked in green, moving down the field - like a Wave.

He then put the two together, called them the Green Wave - changing from former nickname of Greenbacks and Greenies. The mascot used to be a literal Wave, shaped like Gumby with a football helmet, or basketball or baseball bat depending on the sport.

In 1998 they changed it to the "T-Wave" which is the current symbol with the water going over the curved T.

I know you're all quite fascinated.

CH: Any truth to the offseason rumor that Tulane Coach (and former Maryland assistant) Dave Dickerson openly campaigned for the then open assistant coach position at Georgetown?

TWR: I never heard any of those rumors, but that doesn't meant they're not possible. Dickerson is familiar with the area, coaching under Gary Williams for a number years during Maryland's heyday.

Dickerson walked into the toughest situation in the country, taking over Tulane's basketball program just months prior to Hurricane Katrina. He lost most of his first recruiting class, then fought against New Orleans' reputation for several years to try and get kids to play in a 75-year old arena with no practice facility.

He's had some success with winning seasons, in a difficult place to win, and he has a good reputation nationally. But to answer your question, I don't think he did.

CH: Tulane’s Fogelman Arena is the only on-campus arena in the country that serves alcohol – what’s on tap and when do they stop sales?

TWR: As far as I know, it's just beer and it's not at NBA prices. I'm thinking Fogelman Foam probably runs less than the average DC bar. Expect between $3-4. The other joy of Fogelman Arena is if your tickets aren't on the Freret Street entrance side, you get to walk on the back end of the court to get to your seats.

So every game Tulane wins, they technically storm the court. Not like Syracuse, where they actually storm the court after mediocre wins. (CH NOTE: This dude is tremendous.)

CH: Other than the John Williams game fixing era, what is Tulane’s signature basketball moment?

TWR: Once Tulane got away from the Hot-Rod Williams shoe scandal and re-started its basketball program, things went on a quick upturn thanks to the "Posse" which was arguably the coolest college basketball movement I ever saw.

Coach Perry Clark went 10-deep with his team and when he substituted, he brought in an entire fresh-five nearly every time. The whole crowd knew it, the PA announcer knew it and the radio guys knew it. The "posse" would enter from the bench and it caused an immeidate jolt in the little arena. It was the first taste of post-scandal success Tulane had (in anything really) and it was met with huge ovations. The Wave, led by center Anthony Reed, were also pretty good back then going to a few NCAA tournaments in the early/mid 90s.

Outside of that, Jerald Honeycutt won an ESPY in 1997 for the shot he hit, falling out of bounds at the buzzer, in the Superdome to beat Florida State. It was also voted as No. 23 best basketball shot of all time by ESPN on its countdown.

Questions 5-7 and Casual Hoya's answers to The Wave Report's questions after 'The Jump':

CH: What can Georgetown expect from Tulane on the offensive and defensive ends? Who are the players the Hoyas will need to contain (if any) in order to leave New Orleans with a win?

TWR: The current Green Wave roster is based almost entirely on the perimeter. Point guard Kevin Sims was voted preseason second team all Conference USA and shooting guard Kris Richard is the team's most athletic player, and led the league in steals last season.

Both guys can shoot, run and are quick enough to force a lot of turnovers. If they get going, Tulane has a chance to win a lot of games this season.

The Wave's issues come down low where they haven't recruited a legitimate big man in five years. It's not an issue in C-USA because it's such a guard-oriented league, but facing non-conference competition, especially a club like Georgetown is difficult because Tulane can't rebound or defend the post.

Tulane desperately wants to run and if the Hoyas let them, it could be competitive. If it turns into a half-court battle, it could get ugly.

CH: Please rank the following in order of importance to the Tulane student body: booze, partying, The Boot, Jacques-Imo's, The Boot, booze, men's hoops, men's football, The Boot.

TWR:

1) Booze x 10
2) The Boot x 4
3) Jacques-Imos (and all high-fat, high-comfort, high-booze level restaurants) (x3)
18) Any Tulane Sport

Although basketball can gain quick momentum since Fogleman is in the middle of campus - as compared to the Superdome for football which is 10 minutes away downtown. They should have a nice student contingent for Friday night though. Expect both booze and The Boot to play a role in their pregame.

CH: Final score and leading scorers prediction.

TWR: 78-65 Georgetown. Greg Monroe gets game-high 25. Kris Richard, Tulane-high of 17.

CH: Casually.

Pasted below is the article that appears on The Wave Report which includes The Wave Report's questions and Casual Hoya's responses:

Every week, The Wave Report gains the perspective of Tulane's football opponent by talking with someone who covers the team. This week, we also decided to bring you the view from the other side of Green Wave basketball. We pick the brain of Andrew Geiger the publisher of CasualHoya.com, Georgetown's home on the SBNation blog network, to gain some inside knowledge on the No. 20 Hoyas days before the seasons starts.

1) What happened last year? After some strong preseason buzz and a nice run in an early tournament in Orlando, the Hoyas failed to meet expectations. In your opinion was it a chemistry problem, talent problem, coaching problem, etc..?

Everyone believed chemistry to be the problem and there have been some recent leaks indicating that last year's upperclassmen didn't really mesh with the younger guys. The Hoyas were a young squad last year and when you combined the combination of the chemistry issues and inexperience, the result was a toxic cocktail of unspeakable downside. While the talent was there, the losing begat more losing - as the Ls piled up, it was clear that the players had little confidence and even the fans knew to generally expect the worst.

The Georgetown offense takes time to master. The Final Four squad from 2007 suffered a similar collapse in 2005, when the team was mostly freshman. I think all Hoya fans are anxious to see how much the team has benefited from off-season practice and summer ball and are hoping, praying, begging and pleading that there are signs of improvement.

2) What's different about this year's group as they get ready for the opening tip?

The team clearly worked hard over the offseason and several players developed their bodies and came into the season in much better shape. The backcourt - Chris Wright, Jason Clark, and Austin Freeman - have another year of playing with each other and looked very good over the summer.

The Hoyas have high hopes for sophomore Henry Sims to man the middle and make opponents pay for doubling Greg Monroe. Green-shirt freshman Hollis Thompson should be ready to contribute right away, and by all accounts he already has a firm grasp on the principles of the princeton offense.

Junior Julian Vaughn provides some size off the bench and is a homeless man's Jerome Williams There are no seniors on this year's team and it is expected that Wright, Freeman and Monroe take on leadership roles.

3) Georgetown's strength is clearly in its size. Will the Hoyas pull back for a slow, plodding tempo or do you think they will go with the flow of the game? If Tulane tries to turn it into a track meet, can Georgetown match them or will they just throw on the brakes and will it into a half-court game?

Although Monroe is Gtown's best player and happens to be a big guy, I'm not sure I'd say size is our strength - particularly as rebounding has been an issue.

Several players have the ability to put the ball on the floor and one of the goals of the offense is working to take advantage of defensive mistakes. Slow is a legitimate way to describe it but I don't think "plodding" is fair.

Throughout Coach Thomson's career, the Hoyas have dictated tempo and it's tough to believe that Tulane will be able to get them running. Should that happen, however, this team should be built to adapt, as point guard Chris Wright is probably more suited to a fast-paced tempo and all of the bigs can run the floor.

4) How does Georgetown's perimeter game stack up? If Tulane doubles down in the post, which they will likely have to, can the Hoyas knock down three pointers to spread the defense and take pressure of the big men? Who are the top shooters?

Georgetown's top shooters are probably Jason Clark, Austin Freeman, and Chris Wright. All of them can knock down threes, and that is a key component of a successful Princeton offense.

The Hoyas were a bad shooting team last season, mainly because DaJuan Summers (now riding the pine for the Detroit Pistons) infamously took a bunch of awful shots all season long. As long as Nikita Mesheriakov stays on the bench, I'm confident in Georgetown's outside shooting.

5) Local product Greg Monroe was tabbed the top high school player in the nation coming out of Helen Cox two years ago. He didn't leave for the NBA last season, opting to stay for a sophomore year. Did he fail to live up to expectations or did he just realize his game needs a bit more sharpening? How important is this game for him to come back home?

Monroe was universally believed to be no worse than a Top 5 pick last year so I'd say that he lived up to the expectations on him personally - though clearly the team goals fell way short of what he expected.

The return to home game is an important one for almost all athletes who attend colleges outside their area and I'm sure this one is really important to him. Early reports have him picking up scores of tickets. For those who haven't seen him, think Chris Bosh--smooth lefty who can do damage inside and out.

6) The Hoyas are clear favorites, but are any Georgetown fans a bit nervous for this one since it's a season-opener, on the road, in a small building, against a team which is dying for a signature victory?

Yes, and the fact that's the game is on Friday the 13th doesn't help. But if any Gtown fans are nervous, I'm sure they'll feel better after that second Hand Grenade.

Obviously anything can happen, but I don't think Tulane has the firepower offensively or the size defensively to hang with the Hoyas for more than 10 minutes. That being said, we all felt the same way last year before they lost to St. John's.

Twice.

After initially committing to play for Thad Matta, Babbitt got cold feet and decided he wanted to remain near his parents. He's a pro prospect, but playing in a lesser conference seems to put more pressure on the sophomore, who will be expected to be great for the entire season, turn his "Freshman of the Year" award into "Player of the Year" and build upon his 17/7.3/1.3 stat line.

Marqus Blakely; Senior, Vermont - OK let's get this out of the way...America East is one of the least basketball-centric conferences in the country, so when a player catches our eye, he must be impressive. Blakely is a two-time American East player of the year and is going to have quite a burden on his shoulders, as the Catamounts graduated 35 percent of their scoring and it's all time assists leader Miki Trimboli. But at 6'5" 235, Blakely is an explosive scoring threat, and a feared shot blocker who probably will lead his team in all major categories.

Osiris Eldridge; Senior, Illinois State - Finishing a close third to Siena's Just-in'love Smith and Cal's Bak Bak, Eldridge holds claim to one of the baddest names in the college game. Last season ended on a sour note for Eldridge, as he missed a three pointer that would have forced a second overtime against Northern Iowa in the Missouri Valley Tourney Final. Expect the Redbirds to be matched-up against the Panthers once again when the precious NCAA Tournament berth is on the line. Also please take note of his nicely maintained Euro-hawk.

Kenneth Faried; Junior, Morehead State - Quick, who was second in the NCAA last season in double-doubles? No idiot, it wasn't Eric Devendorf, this title belongs to Faried, a New Jersey native who migrated to eastern Kentucky to serve as one of the most imposing players in Ohio Valley Conference. This guy probably plays harder, meaner and faster than any of his opponents, and just may be the country's most prolific rebounder by the end of this season.

Paul George; Sophomore, Fresno State - Come March, George's time as 'just a nice mid-major player' will likely be long gone. After a surprise freshman season (averaging 14 and 6) George often executes foolish dunks, strokes at a 45 percent clip from behind the arc, and is a legit NBA prospect drawing comparisons to Rudy Gay. Yeah, many BCS-schools are kicking themselves for missing this one.

Anthony Johnson; Senior, Montana - In his first season playing DI basketball as a JuCo transfer, Johnson lit up the Big Sky last year putting up scoring numbers not seen by the conference since Rodney Stuckey was killin it at Eastern Washington. Johnson is the reigning conference POY and as a 6'3" wing player, is very efficient . He shoots at 50 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from long range.

Johnathan Jones; Senior, Oakland - Last season's NCAA leader in assists, Jones dropped double-digit dimes (now there's some alliteration) in nine of the Grizzlies last 12 games. Starting every game since he's been on campus, and the only player to ever chalk up 1000 points and 500 assists in a career, Jones has already earned the title as the program's most decorated player. And with that darling Ben Woodside of North Dakota State moving on, Oakland is the favorite to win the Summit league as Jones will enjoy dishing out to three other returning starters all season long.

Larry Sanders; Junior, Virginia Commonwealth - No Eric Maynor, no Anthony Grant, no problem! The 6'10" junior who shares the same name as Gary Shandling's hit HBO show is still here! Sanders has a freakish 91 inch wingspan, and was 11th in the country last season in blocks. While it's quite rare in college basketball, Sanders will be a triple-double threat this season if CAA players repeatedly try and shoot over this guy. NBA scouts like him, but will love him if he develops are more consistent offensive game this season. Nonetheless, first year coach Shaka Smith has a real asset in his frontcourt.

A.J. Slaughter; Senior, Western Kentucky - He's still eligible? That's right, after two years of playing along side Courtney Lee, Tyrone Brazelton and Orlando Mendez-Valdez, Slaughter is still kicking around and arguably the top player in the Sun Belt. Along with Steffphon Pettigrew, Slaughter will lead a team that returns four starters and itching to get back to the dance after being on the wrong side of one of last season's plays of the year.

Edwin Ubiles; Senior, Siena - For what it's worth, Edwin Ubiles has won more NCAA Tournament games than recent college basketball notables Nick Calathes, Eric Gordon, and Greg Monroe combined. After a dramatic victory over Ohio State last season, Siena comes in this season as the trendy mid-major looking to be a Top 25 mainstay this season- and Ubiles will be the man to lead them. Georgia Tech aside, the Saints schedule is pretty benign, so the selection committee will leave little wiggle room for this program to be an at-large bid candidate. Ubiles' athleticism is on par with the top players in the country, and if he develops any sort of outside game he could be an NBA draft pick.
