In a matchup of two oh-so-closes, the Huskies and the Crimson Tide will go head to head in a battle of major conference vs. mid-major conference. We look at the stats and key matchups so you don't have to Google for yourself.
The first five games of the CAA Tournament were separated by just 19 total points. On Monday evening, James Madison won the Championship game by 13. It was a whole different world, but the Dukes made the best of it and are headed to the Big Dance.
After trailing by as many as 24 points in the first half, Bill Coen's Huskies showed resiliency beyond belief in coming from (way, way) behind against George Mason on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies hadn't won a conference title since they won the North Atlantic Conference in 1991. That streak was snapped this season with a 14-4 run through the CAA.
Drexel traveled up to Boston, ready for a Saturday evening showdown that would hopefully facilitate their mid-season revival. Instead, they're heading back to Philadelphia with a bowl full of disappointment after Jonathan Lee showed them the door.
Everybody knows seven is a lucky number. Once Northeastern won their eighth-straight CAA game the streak seemed like more than luck. And yet, in the end, eight was the unlucky number for the Huskies when the streak came to an abrupt halt at home.
Without Damion Lee, Drexel's players put themselves in a position to win with little time on the clock. But Quincy Ford forced overtime with 1.8 seconds remaining and Northeastern took the victory home from the Dragon's jaws of defeat.
In the conference opener for both teams, Northeastern rallied late in the second half to knock off George Mason behind the play of Jonathan Lee and freshman guard Zach Stahl.
The Patriots enter the game with a 7-5 record.
Tyreek Duren and the Explorers will visit Northeastern in search of their five straight victory.
