College Football Rankings: SEC Leads The Way In Week 12 USA Today Poll

The SEC's "down year" is a myth. It has to be, right?

Six SEC teams show up in the USA Today coaches poll for Week 12, pacing all Football Bowl Subdivision conferences, and five are in the top 17.

As usual, five of the SEC's ranked schools are from the unusually strong SEC West, and even Mississippi State's loss to Alabama can't knock the Bulldogs out of the the top 25. The only West team without a shiny number next to a name is Mississippi, which was routed by Tennessee on Saturday. South Carolina, the SEC East champion after a dominant win over Florida in Gainesville, moves up to 17th. Florida falls out of the poll after the loss.

The Gamecocks will meet Auburn in the 2010 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, and will likely be able to play spoiler for the Tigers' BCS chances. That is, if the ongoing NCAA investigation into Cam Newton's eligibility and an Iron Bowl showdown with Alabama don't derail Auburn first.

Full SEC rankings are as follows:

- No. 2 Auburn
- No. 6 LSU
- No. 12 Alabama
- No. 13 Arkansas
- No. 17 South Carolina
- No. 22 Mississippi State
