Purdue 35, Michigan State 31: No. 11 Spartans Rally To Avoid Boilermaker Upset

On Saturday in East Lansing, No. 11 Michigan State has finally woken up. Down by 15 points to unranked Purdue entering the fourth quarter, quarterback Kirk Cousins and company has stormed back with three touchdowns in an effort to dash the Boilermakers' hopes of an upset.

With 4:32 remaining in the game, Cousins scampered for a three-yard touchdown run to put Michigan State up on the scoreboard, 35-31. It was made possible when the Spartans' special teams unit blocked Purdue's punt at their own 13, setting up the home offense with great field position yet again.

After Michigan State's third touchdown of the fourth quarter, Purdue quarterback Rob Henry drove deep into Spartan territory before throwing his second interception of the game, sealing the win for Michigan State. The Spartans now improve to 10-1 on the year, while Purdue falls to 4-7.

Purdue Vs. Michigan State: Interception Leads To TD For No. 11 Spartans, Who Trail 31-20

A crucial interception from the arm of Purdue quarterback Rob Henry has given No. 11 Michigan State new life in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game. The Spartans, who are trying to avoid a disastrous upset, have pulled a little closer to the Boilermakers.

Chris L. Rucker picked off Henry's throw in Purdue territory, giving Spartans quarterback Kirk Cousins great field position. He capitalized with a drive that ended in a 5-yard touchdown toss to B.J. Cunningham. It was the first blemish in an otherwise solid effort thus far from Henry, who has thrown for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

Cousins is now 23-for-30 through the air with 207 yards passing and two touchdowns. Edwin Baker is delivering yet another solid performance on the ground, rushing 15 times for 90 yards.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, Purdue has responded with a field goal to put the score at 31-20, Boilermakers. Michigan State now has just over eight minutes left to climb out of a two-score deficit and evade disaster.

Purdue Vs. Michigan State: Boilermakers Threatening Big Upset Vs. No. 11 Spartans

On Saturday, Purdue is working to deliver the first upset of Week 12 to No. 11 Michigan State. In East Lansing, the Spartans find themselves looking at a 28-13 deficit midway through the third quarter.

Boilermakers quarterback Rob Henry is moving the ball well through the air, having completed 10 of 14 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Purdue's running game has been especially dominant, as five different Boilermakers have taken the ball for a total of 166 yards on the ground. Keith Carlos is responsible for Purdue's first score, an 80-yard gallop into the end zone.

Michigan State managed to stay undefeated through its first eight games this season. A loss to Iowa in Week 9 sent them tumbling a few spots down the rankings. A loss to Purdue -- an unranked 4-6 team that has lost its last four games by a combined 154-39 score -- would surely send them tumbling further.
