The Jon Gruden to the Miami Hurricanes rumors continue and multiple reports are indicating there is a level of interest fro both sides despite Gruden's non-denial denial through an ESPN statement earlier this week. The Miami Herald is the latest in a line of reports that says says Gruden and the Miami AD will be meeting this week to determine the interest on both ends.
UM athletic director Kirby Hocutt traveled to Tampa to meet with Gruden, a meeting expected to take place Wednesday. Hocutt went there to gauge the level of Gruden's interest, according to a high-level UM source.
The Herald reports that Gruden declined Miami's interest early on but has started to become more interested. Two members of UM's board of trustees say Gruden remains the top candidate for the job.
Though Gruden has
claimed he's content with his ESPN gig, there's clearly something more here. Reports continue to stream in that the two sides are in contact and it should be noted that Gruden took nearly an entire day to respond to initial reports that he was interested in the job. If he wasn't interested, why wait so long to say so?
In the instance UM can get Gruden, they're preparing to make season tickets for sale shortly after the announcement to capitalize on the excitement. They have also done a study to see how his hire would boost attendance, according to the Herald.
In the instance UM can't get Gruden, they have their sights set on others, according to the report.
That list includes Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh, Connecticut's Randy Edsall, Utah's Kyle Whittingham and Arizona's Mike Stoops, plus at least two others names, sources said.
If a meeting does indeed take place on Wednesday, we should be hearing soon the details of said meeting.
