Poinsettia Bowl Selects Home Town San Diego State To Face Navy

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Poinsettia Bowl, in an effort to boost attendance, selected San Diego State and Navy for the 2010 edition of the bowl. San Diego State brings a hometown feel to the game, playing its home games at Qualcomm Stadium, site of the Poinsettia Bowl. With a heavy Navy presence in San Diego, Poinsettia Bowl organizers are hoping local servicemen will come out to support the Midshipmen this year, as well.

This bowl game will be San Diego State's first since 1998, when they played in the Las Vegas Bowl. While San Diego State will be making a return to a bowl after a long absence, Navy has gone bowling in each of the last eight seasons. The Midshipmen are currently 8-3 in 2010, with a rivalry game against the Army Black Nights capping their regular season on Dec. 11.

The Poinsettia Bowl takes place on Dec. 23 at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Bowl selections will continue to roll in throughout the week, and we'll be following them all right here. Stay tuned to this StoryStream right on through the selection show this Sunday night.
