2011 NFL Draft Prospects: Anthony Gray Of Southern Miss Projects As Late-Round DT Pick

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles have produced such lofty NFL legends as Ray Guy and ne'er-do-wells as Brett Favre, but their most likely pro prospect for the 2011 NFL draft is a defender: D-tackle Anthony Gray, appearing in Tuesday night's Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl as No. 95 on your television screen.

The senior big man from Philadelphia, Mississippi clocks in at six-foot-nothing and 317 pounds, and apparently did some work as a short-yardage running back in high school, which we would dearly love to have seen. He has earned some form of all-conference honors from C-USA in the 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons, and made the 2010 Outland Trophy watch list. His just-completed senior season saw him earn ten starting nods, and record 43 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

Gray is ranked just outside the top 20 at his position, and is projected as a late-round or free-agent pick.

The 2010 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl kicks off at 8 p.m. EST Tuesday, December 21, on ESPN.
