Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl, Louisville Vs. Southern Miss: Two Quick TDs Put Golden Eagles Up Early

We're underway in St. Petersburg for the 2010 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl, and are asking for your prayers for a low-scoring game, that we may only be forced to type "Beef 'O' Brady's" four or five more times this evening. We had planned to talk about some other things while the offenses were grinding into gear, but the game's been on for less than five minutes and the score is 14-0, so let's get to it.

The scene is set. Deddrick Jones and Tim Green are on the sidelines in their jerseys. Cordarro Law is wearing Martez Smith's jersey. Lou Holtz is valiantly attempting to pronounce the title sponsor of this game. It's a beautiful evening under the sickly lights of the Trop.

Louisville executes a rapid three-and-out that takes precisely 61 seconds, and SoMiss' highly-regarded offense takes the field. Austin Davis throws two passes, runs for a yard, and hits Quentin Pierce down the right side for a 32-yard touchdown pass, all before three minutes have elapsed in the quarter.

Louisville reels off another highly efficient three-and-out, and Southern Miss takes to the ground: On the Golden Eagles' first ensuing play from scrimmage, Desmond Johnson runs right, and keeps right on going for a 62-yard touchdown. With 10:22 remaining in the first quarter, the Golden Eagles lead the Cardinals, 14-0.
