Want a bowl game pitting teams that were far more interesting and exciting in previous configurations? Well, the TicketCity Bowl is for you!
Northwestern and Texas Tech will officially meet up for the bowl, played at the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day. (It's not to be confused with the Cotton Bowl, which is played in Dallas ... at Cowboys Stadium.) And the TicketCity Bowl will get to tout two teams that might have made for a really intriguing game in early 2010 or late 2009.
Unfortunately, a season-ending injury for Dan Persa has made Northwestern's Wildcats a bit less fierce, and the installation of Tommy Tuberville as Texas Tech's head coach has meant the Red Raiders have moved away from Mike Leach's vaunted passing attack and to a less consistent and more balanced system.
Still, if you're looking for reasons to watch one of the lesser bowls played on New Year's Day — there are six, and this one may be the least interesting — console yourself with the knowledge that Northwestern's purple duds and Texas Tech's black and red scheme may make for one of the bowl schedule's more striking combinations of colors.
