One of the more starkly named bowls of the 2010 bowl season has its official matchup: the Military Bowl will bring Maryland and East Carolina to Washington.
And, if you were curious about some of the financial considerations that go into selecting teams for bowls, the Washington Post has you covered:
The Military Bowl is the best option for Maryland strictly from a financial standpoint. The school stood to lose money on every other bowl game possibility, with potential financial doomsday scenarios looming for trips to the Sun Bowl or Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La. And after falling more than $500,000 short of season ticket sales projections in each of the past two seasons, Maryland now will save by staying close to home, avoiding the need to get one or two charter flights for the game. Players will still stay in a team hotel, perhaps for as long as seven nights before the game.
Big-time college football isn't quite so glamorous when it's not quite big-time college football.
