Stay connected with SB Nation

Gene Chizik has been awarded with the Home Depot Coach of the Year award after leading the Auburn Tigers to an undefeated 13-0 season. The award is voted upon by ESPN/ABC college football analysts. Chizik will be presented with the award on Thursday night as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.

Upon winning the award, Chizik had this to say:

“I’ve very humbled to receive this award,” Chizik said. “This is not just an individual award. It is a reflection of the hard work and success of our team, coaches and staff. It is an honor to receive this award on behalf of Auburn University.”

Chizik has led Auburn to 14 consecutive wins dating back to their victory in the Outback Bowl last season. This year, they’ll play in a considerably more important postseason game, as they take on Oregon in the BCS National Championship on January 10th.

This is the second postseason award thus far for the Tigers. On Wednesday, it was announced that defensive lineman Nick Fairley won the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
