College Football Awards: Scott Tolzien Wins Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award

Stay connected with SB Nation

So pumped to write about a quarterback award that didn’t go to Cam Newton. Wisconsin Badgers QB Scott Tolzien won the 2010 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is awarded exclusively to senior quarterbacks. Thus frequent nominees Newton, Boise St. Broncos QB Kellen Moore, and Stanford Cardinal QB Andrew Luck were not eligible.

Tolzien led the Badgers to their first Rose Bowl bid in over a decade and a share of the Big Ten title, leading the nation in completion percentage. He threw for only 2,300 yards, but that’s about all the Badgers needed from him due to their mighty running game.

Recent Unitas winners have included Texas Longhorns QB Colt McCoy, Texas Tech Red Raiders QB Graham Harrell, Boston College Eagles QB Matt Ryan, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish QB Brady Quinn.

To celebrate the most mature of all college football player awards, party responsibly with Bucky’s Fifth Quarter.
