Navy Vs. Air Force Final Score: Blocked Extra Point Dooms Midshipmen

Stay connected with SB Nation

An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, a lengthy extra point attempt and a super special teams play by Air Force turned an impressive Navy comeback into a heartbreaking victory on Saturday in overtime. Navy struck first in overtime, after tying the game with 19 seconds left in regulation, and found the end zone on the first possession of overtime. But it was what happened after the score -- a celebration penalty -- that led to the Midshipmen's undoing.

Air Force got a hand on the extra point, and took over for their shot in overtime with only a six-point deficit to make up. After quickly driving inside the five, the Air Force offense stalled, at least momentarily. On third and goal, Tim Jefferson called his own number, sneaking into the end zone from a yard out.

The Air Force extra point was true and the Falcons escaped with a 35-34 overtime win, surviving a scare from Navy in the rivalry matchup.
