Things haven't quite gone TCU's way as the SMU Mustangs jumped out to a 17-0 lead and headed into the half with a 10-point lead, 17-7. The once vaunted TCU defense is struggling again, and the offense hasn't been able to answer the early punch from the Mustangs in Fort Worth.
Casey Pachall was the master of the dink and dunk in the first half, completing of passes for yards and no touchdowns. He did, however, engineer a solid drive -- with passes of 27 and 19 yards -- to end the half, setting up a field goal to cut the SMU lead to seven. Prior to the drive, Pachall had completed six passes for 28 yards, but perhaps a scoring drive the end the half will be a jumping off point.
J.J. McDermott threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs in the first half. Terrance Wilkerson caught two passes for 78 yards, scoring on a 71-yard touchdown catch and run in the first quarter. Zach Line carried the ball 11 times for 57 yards to compliment the pass-heavy attack.
TCU has some work to do, but thanks to a strong second quarter the Horned Frogs enter the half down by only a touchdown after falling into an early hole.
