Montel Harris Injury: Boston College Running Back Out For Season, Will Seek Medical Redshirt

Boston College will lose the ACC Preseason Player of the Year to a season-ending knee injury.

Boston College's dismal season just got significantly worse: senior running back Montel Harris is out for the season with a knee injury. Harris came into the 2011 season while rehabilitating a knee that has undergone two arthroscopic surgeries, re-aggravated the knee injury in a loss against Wake Forest, and is now being shut down for the year, with Boston College seeking a medical hardship redshirt.

Harris, named the ACC's Preseason Player of the Year after running for 3,600 yards in his first three years with the Eagles, has appeared in two games this season for the Eagles, running for 135 yards on 31 carries.

NCAA stipulations for medical hardship waivers require players to have appeared in less than 30 percent of a team's games for the season, none after the midway point of the year — which comes this Saturday in Week 7 of the 2011 college football schedule.

Boston College's four other running backs have run for 448 yards on 130 carries in 2011. Sophomore Andre Williams is likely to replace Harris as the starter.
