Monday night, the Utah Utes announced starting junior quarterback Jordan Wynn will miss the rest of the season due to an essential shoulder surgery. Wynn had already been ruled out for a couple weeks due to the injury he suffered against the Washington Huskies.
Coach Kyle Whittingham, in a statement:
Obviously, this is disappointing news for Jordan and the entire team. Jordan worked incredibly hard to come back from his shoulder surgery last winter and we are confident he will take the same approach with his rehab this time around. The good news is that he is eligible for a redshirt season.
Expect junior Jon Hays to get a good look as the starter going forward. Hays has gotten all of Wynn's missed snaps so far, throwing for a 120.04 quarterback rating (compared to Wynn's 123.16). He's a little more daring and appears to have a better arm, but has thrown for twice as many interceptions in almost a third as many attempts.
